Thursday morning starting with severe thunderstorm across southern Manitoba

A severe thunderstorm headed across southern Manitoba on Thursday in the early morning hours with the watch ending just after 6:00 a.m.

According to Environment Canada, an approaching low-pressure system over southern Saskatchewan has triggered scattered thunderstorms over southern Manitoba. Some of these thunderstorms may reach severe thresholds.

The biggest threat with this thunderstorm is strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain that could flood certain areas.

Man sentenced to life for slayings of four Indigenous women in Winnipeg

A serial killer has been formally sentenced to four concurrent life sentences with no chance of parole for 25 years in the slayings of four Indigenous women in Winnipeg.

Jeremy Skibicki showed no emotion as the sentence was handed down Wednesday.

When asked by Court of King's Bench Justice Glenn Joyal if he had anything to say, Skibicki replied, “No.”

The judge said he was bound by law to impose the automatic sentence after convicting Skibicki last month of four counts of first-degree murder.

Prairie farmers are busy with the harvest despite disruption in Canada's rail service

Manitoba's harvest is now well underway. 

According to the weekly crop report for the province, 60 per cent of the winter wheat has been harvested and along with 72 per cent of the fall rye.

In addition, 3 per cent of the spring wheat and oats, 15 per cent of the barley, and 20 per cent of the field peas have now come off the field. 

Stanley Bryant expected to be back in Blue Bombers lineup this week

After being taken off the field on a stretcher on Friday night during the first quarter, there's good news surrounding Blue Bombers offensive lineman Stanley Bryant. 

According to head coach Mike O'Shea, Bryant was sick but is expected to take the field against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Sunday's Labour Day Classic. 

Church's generosity becomes way of sharing gospel with community

A church in Tennessee recently helped a whole community pay off their medical bills adding up to $8 million. 

The Altar Fellowship in Johnson, TN, is led by Pastor Mattie Montgomery and his wife, Candice.

During an interview, Montgomery explained how this generous act came to be. The pastor received a call from a friend who explained he had a dream of paying off people's medical debts.

Peter Klassen, 94, of Neepawa formerly of Steinbach, passed away Friday, August 23rd at Selkirk Regional Health Centre. He was predeceased by his wife Lottie. 
The funeral service for Peter Klassen will be held Friday, August 30th at 2pm at Neepawa First Baptist Church with burial at Rosedale Cemetery.

Goldeyes win fourth straight, remain in top spot in the West

The Winnipeg Goldeyes (53-41) maintained their slim lead atop the American Association West Division standings Tuesday with a 3-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Blue Cross Park.
