You don't witness the glaciers in Alaska and say, "Oh, yeah, that's a pretty nice glacier."

You stand in silent awe.

After 11 seasons, former Jet Nathan Beaulieu retires from the NHL

After 11 National Hockey League seasons, former Winnipeg Jet Nathan Beaulieu has officially retired from the league. 

Beaulieu was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 NHL Draft, 17th overall. 

Between time with the Canadiens, Buffalo Sabres, Winnipeg Jets, and Anaheim Ducks, he recorded 98 points in 471 NHL regular-season games and an additional five assists in 21 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Mary Penner nee Hiebert, 84, of Morden formerly of Roseisle, passed away Sunday, July 20th at Tabor Home. She is survived by 2 daughters, 2 sons, 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George W. Penner and 1 daughter. 
The celebration of life for Mary Penner nee Hiebert will be held Monday, July 28th at 11am at Morden Gospel Mission Church with burial at Southside Cemetery. 

Canada should follow U.K.'s move to lower voting age to 16, says senator

Now that the British government has vowed to lower its voting age to 16 by the next general election, one Canadian senator says it's past time for Canada to do the same.

The U.K. announced last week that it would lower its voting age from 18 to 16 in a bid to strengthen British democracy and restore trust in politics.

Sen. Marilou McPhedran said the issue has been her "top parliamentary priority" since she joined the Red Chamber. She said lowering the voting age to 16 would be good for democracy and that the only arguments against it are "based on stereotypes."

Christian children’s music pioneer diagnosed with rare cancer

A Christian singer and songwriter, who has been bringing Bible based songs to children for over five decades, recently received a rare cancer diagnosis. 

Back in May, Mary Rice Hopkins went in for what she thought was just a routine ENT appointment. However, the doctor ended up finding a concerning lump on the back of her neck.

Alvin Hein, 89, of Winnipeg passed away Saturday, July 19th at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by his wife Elma, son Mark, 2 sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 sisters, 2 brothers, and 2 brothers-in-law. 
The celebration of life for Alvin Hein will be held Saturday, July 26th at 2pm at Thomson in the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Boulevard, with burial at Thomson in the Park Cemetery.  
Viewing will be at the chapel one hour prior to the service. 

'Golf is third': British Open champ Scottie Scheffler puts God and family first

The PGA Tour's top golfer and recent champion at the British Open is once again sharing how important his Christian faith and family are in his life. 

Scottie Scheffler recently won The British Open at Royal Portrush in the United Kingdom, shooting 17 under par on Sunday. 

"My faith and my family is what's most important to me," said Scheffler during the post-tournament press conference. ""Those come first for me. Golf is third in that order."

Winnipeg siblings join Cycle of Hope to support organization that once helped them

A Winnipeg man and his brother are using their cycling skills to give back to the same organization that helped house them as children. 

Jose and Carlos Castro, along with their parents, moved into a Habitat Manitoba home on Angus Street in Point Douglas in 1991, just shortly after arriving in Canada from El Salvador. They say this home not only sheltered them, but also hope, community and the opportunity to thrive.
