Beck slams proposed tariffs as threat to Saskatchewan's Agricultural Industry
Saskatchewan NDP Leader and Agriculture & Rural Affairs Shadow Minister Carla Beck is speaking out against the proposed 25 per cent tariffs, warning they could devastate jobs and drive up the cost of living.
“These tariffs will ruin livelihoods, kill jobs, and raise costs for people already struggling to make ends meet on both sides of the border,” Beck said in a statement.
With the federal government mired in political turmoil, Beck called for leaders at all levels to take action.

A Saskatchewan man attempted to convince a King’s Bench judge of his right to opt out of legal proceedings as a “natural, freeborn, sovereign individual.”
Michael Vincent MacGregor, 44, was arrested on Jan. 11, 2023, after an investigation led police to seize over a kilogram of fentanyl, a loaded, stolen sawed-off shotgun, and a large sum of cash, according to a Regina Police Service news release.
MacGregor faces five charges, including possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and several firearms-related offences.

16-Year-Old boy charged in connection with death of Kindersley woman
A 16-year-old boy from Saskatoon is facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with the death of a woman found in an 8th Street parking lot last month.
Jordanna Kucher, 20, was discovered dead in the parking lot of the Copper Mug on 8th Street East on Nov. 15. Three days later, 36-year-old Katelin Shawna McGillivary was charged with first-degree murder in relation to Kucher’s death.
Saskatchewan vet loses appeal of cat declawing decision
A North Battleford veterinarian has lost his appeal against a decision by the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association (SVMA) to ban cosmetic declawing of cats.
Dr. Shawn Haas, who works at Lakeland Veterinary Hospital, disagreed with a 2021 change to the SVMA’s bylaws that prohibits the procedure known as onychectomy. The ban, which was voted on during the SVMA's annual general meeting (AGM), prohibits members from performing cosmetic declawing.
