Bienfait's Battle in the Barn returns for 14th year

Bienfait’s annual Battle in the Barn is back for its 14th year, running from March 27 to 30 at the Bienfait Memorial Arena. This 3-on-3 tournament has become a highlight of the hockey season, drawing families from near and far.

“We’re really excited about it,” said Danielle Woolsey, one of the event’s organizers. She noted the event’s long-standing success, thanks to continued support from the local hockey community.

Macoun Skidoo rally to support town hall refurbishment

The Village of Macoun is gearing up for a big fundraiser for its Town Hall. The community, located about a half-hour drive north of Estevan, will host a Skidoo rally on February 22. Marissa Martin joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to share some details about the event and the much-needed town hall renovations.

“We’ve been working on refurbishing the hall for years, and we’re closing in on the light at the end of the tunnel,” said Martin. The goal is to have the hall ready by the end of 2025, with the rally helping to bring them closer to that vision.

The first Perfect Pet winner of 2025 has been crowned, and his name is Gunner! This energetic and lovable pup has captured the title, but there’s just one problem—we need to find his owner!

Dawn Klassen from All Creatures made the big announcement, but we haven’t been able to get a hold of Gunner’s human, Michael Fontaine. So, if you know Michael, let him know that Gunner is officially the first Perfect Pet of the year!

Hannah’s Grade 1/2 Class at Hillcrest School Celebrates January Classroom of the Month

For our January Classroom of the Month delivery, we had the pleasure of visiting Hillcrest School. Hannah’s name was drawn, earning her and Mrs. Sydiaha’s Grade 1/2 class a delicious feast from KFC Estevan and treats from the Southern Plains Co-op.

It was a bitterly cold day outside, but the students’ warmth and enthusiasm made the visit unforgettable. We chatted about their favourite activities to enjoy on chilly winter days, with plenty of creative and cozy ideas shared by the class.

U14 Lions Oilers coach reflects on historic season, shares winter training plans

The U14 Lions Oilers are coming off a historic season under the leadership of first-year head coach Christian Pfeifer. Finishing with a 5-1 record, the team secured the top spot in the league before narrowly missing a championship game appearance. Their success culminated in a bowl game victory at home, earning them third place overall in the league.

"What we did last year with the Oilers, it was a lot of firsts for this team," Pfeifer said. "It was a very historical season for us. We've never had that kind of success at this level."

Estevan Kinette Club prepares for TeleMiracle 49 with online auction

Krissy Wallman, TeleMiracle Rep for the Estevan Kinette Club, joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to share the club’s plans for TeleMiracle 49. After raising $18,000 last year, the Estevan Kinette Club is gearing up for their annual auction, running February 5 to 8. Wallman encourages donations from businesses, crafters, bakers, and artists, with items accepted until the end of January.

Estevan & District Music Festival gears up for another year of showcasing young talent

The Estevan & District Music Festival is a celebration of the performing arts, offering opportunities for participants to showcase their talents in piano, vocal, instrumental, ensemble, choir, and even spoken word performances. Celebrating its 60th anniversary last year, the festival marked a major milestone with three local piano students advancing to the provincial level—the most in recent memory.

Weldon School’s Grade 2/3 Class Kicks Off the New Year with a Celebration

We started the year off right with a visit to Weldon School in Bienfait to celebrate Jaden and his Grade 2/3 classmates as December’s Classroom of the Month winners! Mr. Nickel’s class was all smiles as we joined them shortly after their holiday break for a fun and festive lunch.

The students were eager to share their favourite holiday memories, from family traditions to wintertime fun, bringing the festive spirit into the new year. The celebration was complete with delicious meals from KFC Estevan and tasty treats from the Southern Plains Co-op, making it a day to remember.
