The U14 Lions Oilers are coming off a historic season under the leadership of first-year head coach Christian Pfeifer. Finishing with a 5-1 record, the team secured the top spot in the league before narrowly missing a championship game appearance. Their success culminated in a bowl game victory at home, earning them third place overall in the league.

"What we did last year with the Oilers, it was a lot of firsts for this team," Pfeifer said. "It was a very historical season for us. We've never had that kind of success at this level."

Braving the -50 wind chill on Monday morning, head coach Christian Pfeifer joined the SUN 102 Morning Show to share details about the U14 Lions Oilers’ upcoming winter workouts.

Now, Pfeifer and his coaching staff are gearing up for their second season, carrying forward lessons learned from last year. "We always have to change things because we only have the luxury of getting kids for two years at the very max," he explained. Adjustments in coaching style, offensive and defensive strategies, and player development will all be key as the team transitions into the new year.

Looking ahead, the Lions Oilers are launching a winter workout program, starting February 6 at the Westview School gym. The program will focus on strength and conditioning, offering young athletes an opportunity to stay active during the off-season.

"Basically, we’re going to get everybody up off the couches and running around," Pfeifer said. "We’re not going to be doing a whole lot of football-specific skills. It’s mostly strength and conditioning, but it’s a great opportunity for kids who are on the fence about football to see what it’s all about."

The free program is open to 12- and 13-year-olds, with some flexibility for slightly younger or older participants. No special equipment is required—just running shoes, gym clothes, and a water bottle.

Pfeifer emphasized that the sessions are non-committal and designed to introduce kids to the sport in a fun, low-pressure environment. "If you have any questions, feel free to come talk to me after the workout, and I’ll be happy to answer anything for you," he added.

The six-week program runs every Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., concluding on March 13. For more information, visit the team’s website at estevanfootball.com or check out their Facebook page at facebook.com/estevanfootball.
