Brazil seeing gospel spread in rainforest, baptizing thousands this year

The 6 million square miles of Amazon jungle in northwest Brazil have been experiencing revival and baptisms like never before. 

Roughly 30 million Amazonians living in Brazil have been hearing the gospel in a new way this year. Previously predominantly a Catholic area, evangelical Christianity is spreading. 

One of those recipients of the gospel is Ramos, an 83-year-old man who lives on a bamboo boat on the Amazon River. 

Christian and Black music communities call for reversal of Juno Awards' decision to cut categories

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) is facing backlash after announcing that four categories, including Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the Year, will be put on "hiatus" for the 2025 Juno Awards.

Christian and Black music communities are calling for a reversal of the decision, which also affects Reggae Recording of the Year, Children's Album of the Year, and International Album of the Year.

Voice of Darth Vader and Mufasa, James Earl Jones remembered as devout Catholic

After passing away on September 9, well-known Hollywood actor James Earl Jones is being remembered for his deep voice and impact on many. 

While Jones was involved in many different movies and TV shows, he's most known as the voice of Darth Vadar in the first filmed Star Wars series in the late 70s and early 80s. He also gave life to the wise father lion, Mufasa, in The Lion King, released in 1994. 

Jones died at the age of 93 years old at his home in Dutchess County, New York, surrounded by family. 

Historic St. Anne's church completes major renovations after 165 years

St. Anne's Poplar Point is one of the, if not the only, heritage buildings and churches of its era still operating as a church. Member Monica Griffiths says they just finished major renovations this past week, and for a short time, you could see the original timbers used for the walls as they were exposed during the renovation. The church was built around 1850.

Families mourn as China ends international adoptions

On Thursday the foreign ministry spokesperson from China announced that the country will no longer allow any international adoption, leaving dozens of children with no home. 

Karla Thrasher is senior director of international adoptions at Lifeline Children’s Services based in Alabama. She worked with the 48 families that were currently awaiting adoption with Chinese children.

An NFL player who was shot during an attempted robbery returned to the field Monday to give thanks to the first responders who helped save his life. 

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest last Saturday by a 17-year-old who was attempting to rob him.

He was rushed to hospital where doctors discovered that the bullet had entered his chest and exited his back without hitting any vital organs. He returned home to recover the next day.

Lemonade stand robbery leads to lesson in forgiveness

A sibling duo from Virginia turned a sour experience into something sweet. 

Late last month, 10-year-old Rebecca Caldwell and her brother, 8-year-old Joshua were hosting a lemonade stand in front of their home, when a man came up to the table and robbed them while their mother was inside the house. 

The initial shock left the family upset. However, they decided to pray and forgive the man who stole their lemonade stand funds.
