Saskatchewan filmmakers enhance skillsets for big productions

Saskatchewan filmmakers were recently invited to a training program, the National Screen Institute’s Crew Training For The TV + Film Industry, being presented by Creative Canada.

The training focused on giving those filmmakers an idea of how productions usually run in other provinces on larger sets, over the course of six days.

Curtis McGillivray, a filmmaker who's currently headquartered in Regina but is originally from the southeast, says the experience was quite useful.

It gave him insight into production processes that don't come up in Saskatchewan as often.

NDP looking at profit surcharge on resource industries as gas prices cause pain

The Saskatchewan NDP is putting forward a proposal to help ease the pain that higher gas prices have inflicted on the province's residents.

That would include a 1% profit surcharge on oil and gas as well as the potash industries, which have recently come under a strong windfall.

It would end up paying for a dual $125 million rebate for Saskatchewan residents, which comes out to around $105 per person, and another $125 million to repeal the upcoming PST amendments.

Fuel efficiency is an important metric when you go to buy a car, but that can be changed both positively and negatively based on your driving habits.

Christine Niemczyk, the communications manager for CAA gave some of her top tips for raising the fuel efficiency of your vehicle:

Saskatchewan farmers find private rails working well for transport

Grain elevators can be seen dotting the landscape of the prairies, and many have been bought by private owners and are being used for their original purpose of storing grain.

Many were also built next to railways, though those are often either infrequently used or have been torn out.

A group of farmers has not only bought the grain elevators along the railway line, but they also purchased a line that runs from Tribune to Estevan themselves to privately run it, called the Long Creek Railroad.

Saskatchewan to watch and wait following BC's drug decriminalization

In a recent announcement, the federal government and B.C. provincial government announced that the province would have an exemption from the current Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to remove criminal penalties from those carrying a small amount of certain illicit substances.

The decriminalization will last from Jan. 1 2023 to Jan.1, 2026, and is set up to see the effects the policy will have.
