‘Couldn’t have gone any better’: Moose Jaw exceeds Curling Canada’s expectations

When Moose Jaw was announced as the host city for the 2025 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, expectations from Curling Canada were high.

Moose Jaw had hosted a successful Canada Cup in 2012 and the Scotties Tournament of Hearts national women’s championships in 2015 and 2020, but this time Moose Jaw was on the world stage.

World curling championship exceeded expectations for business community

Having Moose Jaw host the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship last week not only met, but exceeded, expectations for the business community.

Hotel rooms were booked solid, restaurants and bars were packed to capacity, and downtown stores were seeing items fly off the shelves.

The business community knew that the men’s world curling championship would be a massive event, but no one anticipated it would blow up to what it became.

Canada wins bronze medal on home soil in Moose Jaw

Canada will win the bronze medal on home soil at the BKT World Men's Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.

Skip Brad Jacobs, third Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant and lead Ben Hebert picked up an 11-2 win over China in the bronze medal game on Sunday morning.

"I think the reason why we were able to score so many points— not only did we get a bunch of misses, but we felt really comfortable on Sheet C all week. We loved that sheet. It felt really easy to put the broom down; it felt really easy to call line on that sheet," said Jacobs after the win.

Canada to play for bronze after dropping semifinal to Scotland

Scotland will be playing for gold at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Garden Centre, while Team Canada has been relegated to the bronze medal game.

It came down to the last shot of the 10th end, but Scotland defeated Canada 7-4 in their semifinal game on Saturday night.

“If we went out and laid an egg and played terribly, I’d probably be fuming, but we played well and they made a couple more shots than us,” said Canada lead Ben Hebert.

Scotland advances to meet Canada in the semifinals at BKT World Men's Curling Championship

Scotland defeated Sweden 8-7 in the qualification round and will advance to face Canada in the semifinal on Saturday afternoon at the BKT World Men's Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Curling Club.

The semifinal will be taking place this afternoon at 3 p.m.

This also means there will be a new champion, as reigning world champion Niklas Edin of Sweden has been eliminated.
