Canada overcomes obstacles to pick up win over Italy

Although they got some bad breaks, Canada still came away with a 4-2 win over Italy to improve to 5-1 at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.

Second Brett Gallant and third Marc Kennedy had a couple of shots not go their way as they curled 86 per cent and 84 per cent, respectively. However, it helps when skip Brad Jacobs curls 99 per cent.

Scotland holds off Italy to stay at one loss

Scotland is keeping pace with the front of the pack at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre.

The Scots picked up a 9-7 win over Italy in the afternoon draw to move to 5-1.

Scotland was actually trailing Italy 6-5 after eight ends. However, the scored a four-ended in the ninth and held Italy to one in the 10th.

Elsewhere on the ice, Norway’s comeback fell short as they lost 8-6 to China. The Chinese also move to 5-1.

From fighting fires to firing up curling fans

Brian Starkell is used to fighting fires. But when it comes to major curling events, he fires up the crowd. 

If you come to the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, however, you will hear Starkell’s booming voice yelling “Let’s go Canada, let’s go!” followed by a “Yay Canada!” throughout the arena, with fans clapping along. 

Starkell is a retired Nipawin fire chief who spent 10 years as chief and 47 years in total as a firefighter. Nowadays, he spends his time volunteering. 

Canada picks up big win over Sweden

Team Canada picked up a huge 8-6 win in the morning draw against Sweden at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.

It was an important game for both teams, as they came into this draw tied in the standings at 3-1.

"Beating Sweden, we were both 3-1, and keeping ourselves at one loss, that’s a huge win for us," added skip Brad Jacobs.

With last rock in the first end, Jacobs was left with an open takeout to score one. However, his shot rolled a little too far, and it was a steal of one for Sweden.

City of Moose Jaw implements four-hour parking limit

A temporary extension to the City's paid parking spaces downtown has been implemented for the BKT World Men's Curling Championship, up to a maximum of four hours.

The new maximum limit will be in place from March 31 to April 4, 2025, to accommodate visitors to Moose Jaw attending the World Men's Curling event. The length of the parking time limit extension takes into account that there is no charge for parking on weekdays after 6 p.m. and on weekends.

Final undefeated team falls at BKT World Men's Curling Championship

A sign of how tough the field is, the lone undefeated team, Scotland, received its first loss during the evening draw on Monday at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at Temple Gardens Centre.

Leading 2-1 after four ends, Czechia stole one in the fifth and two in the sixth against Scotland. After giving up a single in the seventh, Czechia skip Lukas Klima made a fantastic double takeout to score three and end the game 8-2 in favour of Czechia over Scotland.

Scotland defeats Canada in an extra end

Canada took its first loss at the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship on Monday afternoon at the Temple Gardens Centre, losing to Scotland.

Down by two with the last rock coming home, skip Brad Jacobs made a highlight-reel shot to force an extra end, but Scotland came out on top 6-5.

“Flip the hammer—that was kind of the goal at the fifth-end break, to have the hammer back with the peel game. We did that, and we were obviously trying to score our two,” said Scottish skip Bruce Mouat.

Quiet opening draw on third day of BKT Wold Men’s Curling Championship

It was a quiet morning at the BTK World Men’s Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre on Monday.

Only three of four sheets were in action with Canada having the morning off.

The European champion Germans picked up their first win of the tournament, downing Austria 9-3.

Switzerland picked up a 8-5 win over Japan and Italy won 7-5 over Czechia.

This afternoon will feature two of the top teams as Canada will take on Scotland. 

China, Scotland join Canada as undefeated teams at men’s worlds

After Day 2 of the BKT World Men’s Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre in Moose Jaw, Canada, China and Scotland are the only remaining undefeated teams.

Canada had the bye during Sunday evening’s draw, but China and Scotland each picked up wins.

China was leading Italy 6-4 heading into the ninth end before scoring three points to make the final 9-4.

Meanwhile, Korea held tough against the Scots. Scotland only held a 6-3 lead heading into the ninth end. They also scored three for a 9-3 win.

Canada finishes off opening weekend 3-0

It's been a hot start for Team Canada at the BKT World Men's Curling Championship at the Temple Gardens Centre.

Canada defeated South Korea 9-3 in the afternoon draw to move to 3-0 to remain atop the standings.

Canada opened with the hammer. Jacobs drew to the side of the button for three to start the game. In the second, Canada forced Korea to draw for their single point.

After Korean skip Hyojun Kim came up light on his last rock, Jacobs drew a piece of the button for two to give Canada a 5-1 lead after three ends.
