RM of Rudy and Town of Outlook announce joint use Fire Hall

The Town of Outlook and the RM of Rudy are partnering in order to build a new joint use Fire Hall.

This Fire Hall will serve as the new home for the Outlook-Rudy Fire and Rescue, which serves not only the Town and the RM, but also the communities of Broderick and Glenside.

Kevin Trew, CAO for the Town of Outlook, explains that originally, before the Outlook Fire Hall joined up with the RM and the surrounding communities, they were already planning to build a new Fire Hall.

The Southwest is alive with the sound of music

The 2025 Swift Current Music Festival is taking place this week from April 6th through to the 10th at Zion Mennonite Church. 

The annual festival brings the southwest together through music featuring performances from vocalists, pianists. cellists and more. 

Sophie Regier is no stranger to competing at the festival and provides details on her entries this year. 

"So, I am entered in a bunch of musical theatre, I think I am doing five solos and then one duo and then I am also doing voice, I did piano, and I will do a leader as well which is a German art song."

Tourism week 2025 celebrates "Canada Powered By Tourism"

At last week's city council meeting April 7th-11th was proclaimed National Tourism Week here in Swift Current. 

In attendance at the meeting was CEO of Tourism Swift Current Mitchel Cook along with Denise Wall, Business Development & Tourism Officer for the City. 

Wall provides details on this year's theme for the week. 

Sharpen your blades and brushes for the upcoming Skate and Paint

Sharpen your skates and your artistic talents to participate in tomorrow's Skate and Paint event being put on by the city. 

Krista Caswell, Community Recreation Coordinator for the City of Swift Current provides more details.

"First we will have a public skate from 4:30-6:00pm and then from 6:30-8:00pm we will be having the paint. This event is entirely free."

In addition, Caswell says it's a great way to end the season. 

Crowds turn out for 60th Hobby, Craft and Gun Show

It was quite the turn out this past weekend for the 60th Annual Swift Current Hobby Craft and Gun Show. 

Along with his wife, Henry Banman has organized this event since its inception and was thrilled with the attendance this past weekend. 

"We are absolutely flabbergasted by what's coming in the front door and how quickly it's happening it has been unbelievable. We are so grateful to the residents of the city and surrounding area that they are here as faithful and truly as they always are."

Banman detailed some of the items available at this past weekend's show.

Twelve lucky qualifiers will be chosen to participate in an epic wing eating contest taking place on April 24th where they will have 12 minutes to eat as many wings as they can with the spice level increasing as time goes on. 

Local roller derby teams skate their way to winning weekend

The Gull Lake Recreation Complex was home to two local roller derby teams season opener this past weekend. 

Jr Team the Ra Ra Riots took on the Bridge City Bruisers and skated their way to a 300 to 243 victory and senior team the Redneck Betties were also victorious against the Gas City Inferno with a 187 -169 win. 

The Riots and Betties will now be gearing up for their next home game taking place on May 3rd. 

Road tour to assess repairs needed to take place

RM Of Swift Current Reeve Ramona Dyck says she and council will be hitting the local roads in order to identify repairs needed to them through a road tour. 

Dyck explains how the significant amount of snow received this year impacts the roads. 

"We've had some issues over the Winter with clearing roads, I think everyone is aware of that. We've had more snow than we have for a while, and we've been doing our best to take care of those roads but there always then will be issues arising in the Spring when everything starts to melt."

Susan Aglukark to light up the event center stage

This evening, Swift Current is proud to welcome back Susan Aglukark who will be taking to the stage at the events center at the Living Sky Casino. 

Aglukark returns as part of the Stars For Saskatchewan Concert Series presented by the Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils (OSAC) and the Swift Current Arts Council. 

The Swift Current Arts Council hosted Susan Aglukark in the early stages of becoming a council and at the time the performances were held at the Swift Current Comp's cafeteria
