A taste of summer camp for the whole family at Winkler Bible Camp’s Family Fun Days
Winkler Bible Camp hosted their annual Family Fun Days on May 31st and June 1st, with over 2,000 people in attendance over the course of the weekend. While the hot temperatures drew many people to the camp’s beach and lake, the community explored virtually every aspect the camp had to offer.
No injuries in Sunday night collision north of Winkler
No charges are pending after a single vehicle collision at the corner of PR 428 and Road 16 North in the R.M. of Stanley Sunday night.
Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the scene north of Winkler around 9:30pm. When officers arrived, EMS and Winkler Fire Department were already on scene. The investigation determined an SUV travelling northbound on 428 ended up in the east ditch, and rolled onto its side.
The SUV was being driven by a 36-year-old female from Winkler, and also had two other female occupants aged 14 and 59.
There were no injuries in the incident.

Viewing will be at the church prior to the service.

John F. Loeppky, 87, of Niverville passed away Thursday, May 29th at St. Boniface Hospital. He is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son. He was predeceased by his wife Helen.
A memorial service for John F. Loeppky will be held Sunday, June 8th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment prior to the service at 12 (noon) at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville.

The funeral service for Paul Naherniak will be held Friday, June 6th at 11am at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with bural at Rosa Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery.

With hotel space in short supply, Manitoba fire evacuees welcomed in Niagara Falls
As emergency officials work to find hotel space for wildfire evacuees on the Prairies, a Manitoba Indigenous group says it has welcomed residents from the Pimicikamak Cree Nation at a hotel in Niagara Falls, Ont.
The organization, which represents Indigenous peoples in Manitoba, said in a social media post that the first of the evacuees from Pimicikamak were greeted Sunday at the airport in Hamilton with snacks and drinks before being loaded onto a bus for the last portion of their trip.
Rhineland to develop a master drainage plan
The Municipality of Rhineland is moving ahead with another of its strategic priorities - developing a master water drainage plan.
Council has hired Northern Plains Drainage Systems on a one-year trial to conduct a survey of all local ditches.
"This is kind of a new thing for us," explained Reeve Don Wiebe. "We've had some information; other municipalities have done some work in this area."
Ports, mines and pipelines top premiers' wish lists ahead of meeting with Carney
Canada's premiers are heading into to a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney in Saskatoon Monday armed with their wish lists for major "nation-building" projects that could buttress the economy in the face of a U.S. trade war.
Carney asked the premiers to each pass on five suggestions for national infrastructure projects, and Monday's meeting will aim to identify the ones that will make the final cut to be fast tracked using legislation Ottawa may introduce as early as this week.
GVC Jazz Café a smashing success with over 200 guests
Garden Valley Collegiate’s (GVC) vocal jazz groups and jazz band went out on a high note last week, Thursday, with their final performances for the 2024-2025 school year. The Jazz Café, put on by a collective with a clear heart for music, put that passion on full display, with tears in eyes as the senior students said goodbye to their GVC ensemble life one final time before they graduate.
