Altona police charge two in separate assaults

Two people have been charged with Assault after a pair of separate incidents in Altona last week. 

According to the Altona Police Service's latest activities report, the first call came on Tuesday when officers responded to a reported fight in the parking lot of the local mall. After collecting statements from both parties, police charged a 27-year-old man with Assault. He was later released on conditions, including not to communicate with the victim.

'We’re overloaded': Many Hands seeks solution for exploding user numbers

When Many Hands Resource Centre took over the foodbank in Morden in 2020, 35 families were registered to receive food items weekly. 

Two and a half years ago, the number more than doubled to 80 families.  

Today, there are 400 families (totalling 1000 people) registered with the food bank. About 120 regularly visit the food bank each week.

The organization’s annual spring fundraiser is happening Thursday, April 10th at Winkler Mennonite Brethren Church. Executive Director Chris Derksen says this is their biggest fundraiser of the year, and it's a chance to support the vital work happening behind the scenes at PCC.

Ottawa police name suspect in Parliament Hill lockdown incident

Ottawa police have released the name of the person they say was behind a massive security incident on Parliament Hill over the weekend.

Police say Tyler Hall-Worthington, a 31-year-old Ottawa man, has been charged in connection with the lockdown Saturday afternoon at East Block, a building in the parliamentary precinct that mainly houses offices for senators and their staff.

An Ottawa police spokesperson told The Canadian Press that the suspect was still in custody as of Monday morning.

Flyers looking to rebound after falling into 2-0 series hole

The Winkler Flyers struggled to find the back of the net for a second consecutive game as they lost game two of their semi-finals series 3-1 on Sunday.

By the numbers, the first period was more of a tight checking, if not cautious approach by both teams.
