The 2026 Census of Agriculture questionnaire has now been published on the Statistics Canada website.

The census is conducted every five years with the last Agriculture Census being done in 2021.

For the 2026 Census of Agriculture, new categories have been added under the commodity questions to identify emerging agricultural products.

Questions on agricultural practices have been expanded to include environmental practices and environmental sustainability.

Questions on the adoption of on-farm technologies and renewable energy production have been updated to reflect current technologies.

Canada's agricultural sector is an important engine of economic growth.

The Agriculture Census plays an important role in providing insight on critical current and emerging issues such as food security and inflation.

The government says the information is needed to support the sector's economic growth, recovery and sustainability, especially as it relates to international trade, competitiveness and advancing agricultural science innovation, including research on climate change.
