Keith Peters has been involved in the Special Olympics for a grand total of 43 years.
During this time, he has competed in track, basketball, baseball, floor hockey, and soccer.
He even took a trip to Barcelona, Spain, in 1992 for the games.
Winkler Fire Department responds to vehicle fire during Grad Parade
Winkler Fire Department responded to a vehicle fire during the Grad Parade celebrations last week.
At approximately 8:19 p.m. on June 18, 2025, fire crews were dispatched to Park Street after receiving reports of a vehicle fire. According to Winkler Fire Chief Richard Paetzold, the blaze originated in the engine compartment of a vehicle being transported on a trailer in the parade procession.
Winkler Fire Department responds to structure fire on Parkmeadow Drive
Winkler Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Parkmeadow Drive at 11:10 a.m. on June 17, 2025. According to Fire Chief Richard Paetzold, the fire began in the attached sunroom of a residence.
Paetzold shared that the fire stayed contained to the sunroom, with some smoke entering the house, and the fire was extinguished quickly by department crews.
Early morning pursuit for Winkler Police leads to an abandoned vehicle
A brief early morning pursuit on May 17th led to multiple fines and a vehicle impound after Winkler police encountered a suspicious vehicle.
At approximately 2:24 a.m., an officer on patrol spotted the vehicle speeding. When police attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled.

Scientist Daniel Shugar says images of the aftermath of Thursday's deadly rockslide in Banff National Park provide evidence of its cause — water flowing through the interior of the mountain.
“You can actually see some springs coming out of the cliff and actually coming out exactly from the scar itself,” said the University of Calgary professor of geomorphology.
He described how water from a lake above the cliff at Bow Glacier Falls had been seeping through rocks for decades before it eventually provided enough force to dislodge a boulder, triggering the rockfall.

The Morden Legion is firing up the grill in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Pembina Valley this Saturday, June 21st. The fundraising BBQ takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Morden Co-op parking lot and features a $10 meal deal that includes a sausage burger or hot dog, chips, and a drink — all for a great cause.
The BBQ is part of a growing partnership between the Morden Legion and Big Brothers Big Sisters, sparked by a conversation between Legion member Tammy Petkau and BBBS Executive Director Jenelle Neufeld.
