Jade Turner returns to Made in Manitoba with four MCMA nominations this weekend

It's time for another episode of Made in Manitoba, and this weekend we're going country by celebrating the four nominations Jade Turner has received from the Manitoba Country Music Awards. The winners will be announced at an event this weekend in Winnipeg, and Jade will be competing in categories including Female Artist of the Year and Fans Choice.

The recognition is ahead of her new album "Breathe" being released in late January, with a number of singles already put out over the course of this year.

Wesley Penner, 85, of Winnipeg formerly of Landmark, passed away Friday, October 25th at Winnipeg. He is survived by 5 children, their mother Ruth, 15 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 3 siblings and their families. He was predeceased by 7 siblings. 
A memorial service for Wesley Penner will be held Sunday, December 1st at 3pm at Heartland Community Church, Landmark. Private burial has taken place at Prairie Rose Cemetery, Landmark. 

A historic turnout: Blue Sky Opportunities sets new fall banquet attendance record

The community demonstrated its steadfast support for Blue Sky Opportunities by coming out in droves to the organization's annual fall fund raising banquet last night in Altona. 

It what appears to be tradition for the event, it was another sold out crowd at the Rhineland Pioneer Centre. New, however, was that this was the most people to ever attend at 352.

George Froese, 95, of the rural Austin/Sidney area passed away Wednesday, November 6th at Gladstone. 
The funeral service for George Froese will be held Tuesday, November 12th at 1pm at Austin Evangelical Fellowship Church with burial at Edrans Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service. 
Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Pembina Valley Hawks to face off against cancer tonight

November is Hockey Fights Cancer Month, and the Pembina Valley Hawks U18 AAA team is gearing up for a game that aims to do just that.  

The Hawks will take on the Winnipeg Thrashers at 8 p.m. tonight (November 8th) at the Access Event Centre in Morden.  

All proceeds from the game will go to Community Cancer Care at Boundary Trails Health Centre (BTHC) Foundation.  

Hellebuyck nets 40th shutout as Jets continue to roll over opponents ▶️

In a defensive battle against the Colorado Avalanche, Connor Hellebuyck shone brightly, notching his 40th career shutout to propel the Winnipeg Jets to a 1-0 victory on home ice Thursday night.

The shutout was a milestone for Hellebuyck and extended his impressive streak to 133:09 minutes of shutout hockey, following his previous start against Tampa Bay.

Gabe Vilardi opened the scoring for Winnipeg just 1:06 into the game. He finished off a quick odd-man rush with a pass from Mark Scheifele, marking his fifth goal in six games.

Canada’s unemployment rate holds steady at 6.5% in October, economy adds 15,000 jobs

Canada’s unemployment rate held steady at 6.5 per cent last month as hiring remained weak across the economy.

Statistics Canada’s labour force survey on Friday said employment rose by a modest 15,000 jobs in October.

Business, building and support services saw the largest gain in employment.

Meanwhile, finance, insurance, real estate, rental and leasing experienced the largest decline.

Many economists see weakness in the job market continuing in the short term, before the Bank of Canada’s interest rate cuts spark a rebound in economic growth next year.

Pembina Central Flyers host special cancer support game tonight for teammate’s sister

A special game for a special cause

The Pembina Central Flyers U15 AA hockey team is hitting the ice tonight for more than just a game; they’re coming together to support teammate Zander Bourgeois’s sister, 18-year-old Peyton Bourgeois, who is battling ovarian and bone cancer. The team is hosting a special charity game at 7:30 p.m. at the Carman Arena to raise funds to help Peyton during her difficult journey with the disease.
