Morden man charged after drug trafficking investigation search warrant executed

A 19 year old Morden man has been charged with a variety of drug and weapons related offences after a search warrant was executed Labour Day Monday.

According to a news release issued by Morden Police, on Monday, as part of an ongoing investigation, officers along with the Regional Support Tactical Team, executed the search warrant at a residence in the city. Once inside, police found the suspect, arrested him and transported him to the Morden Police Service building.

IIU Investigating after RCMP involved shooting near Sanford

A 23 year old male was transported to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg by ambulance in stable condition after he was involved in a shooting with an RCMP officer near Sanford Wednesday night.

According to information released by RCMP,  officers were called around 9:10 p.m. to a report of an assault and disturbance at a home located in the R.M. of Macdonald. Information received indicated the male had assaulted a female inside the home, and attempted to light several vehicles on fire.

Provencher MP Ted Falk not surprised by Jagmeet Singh’s move to end Liberal-NDP deal

Provencher MP Ted Falk says he wasn’t surprised to hear of NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh’s decision to withdraw from their confidence and supply agreement with the Liberal government. 

"Today’s news from Jagmeet Singh isn’t really a shocker. The NDP are gearing up for their caucus retreat before Parliament starts up again, and there’s been a lot of pressure on Singh from his own party. They’re seeing their polling numbers drop and think it’s tied to their deal with the Liberals." 

Falk didn’t hold back on his criticism of Singh’s past decisions.  

Sea Bears sign five players to protected list

The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) have retained the first right to negotiate with five members of its 2024 team for the 2025 season.
 
In the CEBL, all players are on single-season contracts, which means every club must sign its full roster each Spring. Free agency for the 2025 season begins Feb. 1. Each club is granted the right to negotiate with players on their protected list from now until Mar. 1 without interference from other CEBL teams.
 

Fundraising Truck Drive for Special Olympics athletes returns Saturday morning

The Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics Manitoba will be joining together for the annual fundraising Truck Drive Saturday morning (September 7th). The event is presented by the Manitoba Trucking Association, and is happening during National Trucking Week.

The Perimeter Highway around Winnipeg will rumble with the sound of passionate Manitoba truckers in a display of support for Special Olympics Manitoba athletes… with many of those tracks taking athletes for the ride.

Sports Update - Thursday, September 5th

The Winnipeg Goldeyes season will be on the line Friday night at Blue Cross Park. The Fish were held to just five hits and lost 5-0 to the Canaries Wednesday night at Sioux Falls Stadium in game one of the American Association's best-of-three West Division semifinal. Edwin Arroyo and Jake McMurray had two hits each for the Goldeyes. Winnipeg starter Joey Matulovich took the loss. He went four innings, allowed four hits, three earned runs and struck out five.
