Winkler's Mayor encouraging prospective candidates to run in upcoming by-election
Winkler Mayor Henry Siemens is encouraging those considering running in the upcoming councillor by-election to get their nomination papers in by the November 6th deadline. Nominations are being accepted starting Thursday.
With the recent passing of former councillor Don Fehr, and there being two years left in the current municipal term, the city had a legal requirement to fill the seat.
Price is Right theme cleverly educates gala goers on real cost of medical equipment
Friday night, it was yet another sold crowd for the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation’s annual fundraising gala at the Access Event Centre in Morden. The evening had a Price is Right theme, with the games played a clever way of educating attendees about the real cost of the specialized medical equipment the Foundation has bought for the hospital.
The items contestants bid on ranged in price from $110 for a a finger pulse oximeter to $194,000 for a mom and baby patient simulator comprised of mannequins mimicking actual human anatomy and function.

Rhineland Council chooses taxation to meet PVWC obligations
Municipality of Rhineland Council has decided how it will raise its portion of a landmark, multi-municipality commitment to the Pembina Valley Water Co-op (PVWC).
In August, all 14 of the PVWC's member municipalities agreed to provide a total of $15 million over the next 10 years in order to get going on an aggressive capital infrastructure program, with larger users paying more than smaller users.
Car club members put hobby to good use

In total, the car club doled out $48,781.53 in 2024 to organizations that serve the Pembina Valley.

Puzzle enthusiast, Elmer Kehler, recently finished a 40,320-piece puzzle.
Kehler, from Steinbach, says it took him about 18 months, and estimates he spent around 700-750 hours on the puzzle.
He says he has been doing puzzles for most of his life.
