Kenora’s candidates for Mayor promise change at City Hall
Residents hopefully have a more clear platform from each of the community’s three candidates for the Mayor’s seat after the second All-Candidates Debate in Kenora – as we get ready to elect our 9th Mayor this fall.
Seven Generations Education Institute was host to the debate between 11-year municipal veteran Andrew Poirier, long-time political hopeful David Byers-Kitt and 20-year leader of the Kenora and District Chamber of Commerce, Andy Scribilo – with a meet and greet afterwards.
Kenora wants to see change after Councillors’ debate
A wide range of Kenora’s community members came out to Seven Generations Wednesday night to hear a variety of solutions being presented by the upcoming batch of city councillors – the first of Kenora’s three All Candidate Debates ahead of the municipal election.

Kenora Chamber to host all-candidates forum and open house
The Kenora & District Chamber of Commerce is giving voters the chance to learn more about the candidates running in this month's municipal election.
Due to the larger than usual number of candidates running for council, the Chamber is introducing an open house. The format for the Open House will be like a trade show where tables will be set up for the candidates and voters can meet directly with the candidates and address their concerns and questions.
City thanks Reynard, McMillan, Van Walleghem for their service
Teary eyes filled Kenora’s council chambers on Monday as this group of Council held their last meeting together ahead of the 2022 municipal election.
The celebration began as councillors came together at the end of September 20’s Council meeting to honour Chris Van Walleghem and Rory McMillan, who have both decided to step away and retire from municipal politics after this term.

The City of Dryden is advising voters in the community of a change ahead of the 2022 municipal election.

Shake-up in Dryden council expected following election
Residents of Dryden will see a big change when it comes to mayor and council after the upcoming election.
A new mayor will be elected as Greg Wilson announced earlier this year that we won't seek re-election as he is stepping back from municipal politics to spend more time with his family and his business.
Current Councillor Shayne MacKinnon put forth his papers for mayor. He will be in the running against Jack B. Harrison.
Smith files re-election forms ahead of deadline
A returning face is hoping to get re-elected in Kenora.
City councillor Sharon Smith has confirmed she has filed her nomination forms to once again run and hopefully be re-elected as a councillor in this fall’s municipal election.
Smith was first elected as a city councillor in 2010 and was re-elected in both the 2014 and 2018 elections by the Kenora community. The long-time councillor and Keewatin resident is a former Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry staff member.
Reynard won’t seek re-election, Kenora to elect 9th Mayor
The Kenora community will be electing a new Mayor this fall.
On August 12, Mayor Dan Reynard confirmed with regional media members that he will not be letting his name stand in this fall’s election, saying the decision was a difficult one to make and he is keeping his reasons private.
That means Kenora is set to elect its 9th Mayor on October 24. Currently, councillor Andrew Poirier is running for the seat, along with Andy Scribilo and David Byers-Kitt.
Reynard was elected as Kenora’s Mayor in 2018, defeating Lydia Harlos for the seat.

An eight-year city councillor has announced his plans to retire ahead of the 2022 municipal election.
“I just felt that after 8 years on council, it was time for me to step back and let other folks with different thoughts come forward,” confirmed City Councillor Chris Van Walleghem, in a statement to Q104 and KenoraOnline.
