Hearts of Freedom: Manitoba Museum presents exhibition that explores the legacy of Southeast Asian refugees on Canada

History is such an integral part of basic knowledge and helps our understanding of the world around us.  Right now the Manitoba Museum is presenting a fantastic and historically significant project called Hearts of Freedom: Stories of Southeast Asian Refugees.

The Problem With Pink: MTYP presents thought provoking play for youth

Starting on February 16 and running until February 24, the Manitoba Theatre for Young People (MTYP) in collaboration with Le Petit Théâtre de Sherbrooke from Quebec, and La Parenthèse Ensemble from France, will be presenting a show that gets children and parents thinking about stereotypes we often project on ourselves and others.

The Problem With Pink is a show that explores such cultural issues as Gender, tolerance, openness, diversity and living together.

Embracing Winter: The Jack Frost Challenge starts this weekend

Starting this Sunday February 11th and going through to Saturday the 17th Manitoba’s hub for green Living, the Green Action Centre is holding their annual Jack Frost Challenge.

This is an event that encourages Manitobans to embrace the winter weather while at the same time staying both mentally and physical healthy, helping the environment, and inspiring active modes of transportation year round.

This Sunday, February 11th at 3:00pm at The Lutheran Church of the Cross, the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble will be presenting their second concert of the 2023-24 season.

Called Light and Shadow, this concert explores the joys and darker moments of the human experience; everything from deep emotional loss to the blisses of experiencing the simple things in life.

Kids Helping Kids: Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ holds their 35th annual Musicthon

This weekend, Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ Association (MRMTA) will be hosting their annual Kids Helping Kids Musicthon. This is an event that is now in its 35th year. The main purpose is to raise money for music programs for disadvantaged youth and give back to the Winnipeg community.

MCMA marks Black History Month by exploring music from the Caribbean

Throughout this month of February on Thursday nights at 7:00pm, the Manitoba Conservatory of Music and Arts is offering a four week vocal workshop that explores music from the Caribbean.

The course will cover various repertoire from reggae to calypso, to music from the more modern eras. The course will also feature the impact that such legends as Harry Belafonte, Jackie Opel, and Bob Marley had on music from the Caribbean.

Black History Month: Classic 107 celebrates Black composers in the 1:00 p.m. hour. This week-- Samuel Coleridge Taylor

February is Black History Month and throughout the month, in the 1:00 p.m. hour, Classic 107 will be featuring music written by Black composers. Tune in throughout the first complete week of February (Feb. 5 to 9) as we will feature the marvelous, and gorgeous music of English composer Samuel Coleridge Taylor.

Starting on Monday the 5th we will be putting to air his romantic and beautifully Dvorak-influenced 'Piano Quintet in G minor.'

City of Song: Manitoba Choral Association marks 40 years of “Manitoba Sings” this weekend

This weekend the Manitoba Choral Association (MCA) is celebrating 40 years of a truly unique flagship program. “Manitoba Sings” is a program that regularly draws 300 singers of all skill levels from youth to adults from all over Manitoba. The participants take part in a weekend of singing, fun and community building. The weekend choral celebration concludes with a performance on Sunday February 4th at 3:00pm at Portage Avenue Church.

Put A Yid On It! -- Rady JCC launches their inaugural Festival of Yiddish Culture

Starting on Wednesday February 7th and going until Sunday, February 11th, The Rady Jewish Community Centre will be holding a very fun, and engaging festival that puts Yiddish language and culture front and centre. The festival which is called “Put a Yid On it!” Will spotlight Yiddish film, and music, and will also mark the release of a brand new book that pays homage to Yiddish Cinema. And the best part is that you do not need to be able to speak Yiddish to enjoy the festival.
