The Royal Canadian Legion turns to Amazon for annual poppy campaign boost
The Royal Canadian Legion says a new partnership with e-commerce giant Amazon is helping boost its veterans' fund, and will hopefully expand its donor base in the digital world.
Since the Oct. 25 launch of its Amazon.ca storefront, the legion says it has received nearly 10,000 orders for poppies.
Online shoppers can order lapel poppies on Amazon in exchange for donations or buy items such as "We Remember" lawn signs, Remembrance Day pins and other accessories, with all proceeds going to the legion's Poppy Trust Fund for Canadian veterans and their families.

Tim's coffee caper caught after doubling down on spree
RCMP have apprehended a man who has hit 17 Tim Hortons restaurants including multiple locations in the southwest with break and enter's since June.
Joshua Elliot Moose was taken into custody in White City on October 31, 2024, by the RCMP Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, with assistance from the RCMP Regina General Investigation Section.
The 25-year-old has broken into Tim Hortons locations in Swift Current, Maple Creek, Kindersley, Saskatoon, and Indian Head.
Three southwest residents honoured for saving woman from attack
"We just did what was right. We saw something happening, and we just couldn't let it go on."
Nora McLearn downplays her courage, but the Royal Canadian Humane Association thought enough of it to award her a silver medal for bravery after saving a woman from an axe attack in Swift Current last spring.
Her grandson Chace Riley of Neville received a bronze medal for his role, while Swift Current's Danielle Armstrong was awarded with an honorary testimonial certificate.

Magnitude 5.3 quake hits northern Yukon, no damage reported
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has struck in northern Yukon, but Natural Resources Canada says there have been no reports of damage and none would be expected.
The quake struck about 167 kilometres north of Keno, Yukon, and 519 kilometres from Whitehorse, just after noon Pacific Time at a depth of 27 kilometres.
Natural Resources Canada had initially reported a magnitude of 5.8 for the quake, and says tremors were felt in Keno, which has a population of about 20 people.
City raising concerns over defaced and stolen election signs
The City of Moose Jaw is raising concerns about reports of stolen and/or defaced election signs belonging to candidates in the municipal election.
Residents are asked to be respectful of candidates and their property.
People are reminded that anyone caught stealing and defacing signs can face fines of up to $2,000.
WHL players to become eligible to play NCAA Division I hockey in 2025
Players who have played in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and, in turn, the Western Hockey League (WHL) will be eligible to play NCAA Division I hockey in the United States beginning in 2025.
The NCAA Division 1, which regulates U.S. college athletics, approved the rule change on Thursday. Previously, players were CHL experience were ineligible to compete at the NCAA level as they were deemed professional because players receive a stipend of up to $600 per month for living expenses.

Real estate prices rise as inventory continues to shrink: Market Watch
October saw the highest monthly sales ever reported in Saskatchewan, with 1,520 sales during the month bumping numbers to 21 per cent higher than 2023 — 36 per cent above long-term, 10-year historical averages. Cole Zawislak with the Saskatchewan Realtor’s Association (SRA) said that trend holds across the province, including for Moose Jaw.
