Dangers of asbestos in the spotlight during Global Asbestos Week

It's Global Asbestos Awareness Week. To mark the occasion, from April 1-7 entities across the world and within Saskatchewan are raising awareness of the dangers of asbestos in the workplace.

"Work related asbestos diseases can be prevented if you are aware of where it is located in a building and how to properly handle it to avoid exposure to its fibers," Labour Relations and Workplace Safety Minister Jim Reiter said in an official statement.

Residential, Commercial growth drives spike in Moose Jaw building permits

It was another strong month for building permits, according to data released by the City of Moose Jaw.

The projected value of building permits in March was up 7.76 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Of the 13 permits issued last month, three were for commercial projects, totaling $560,000; three were for institutional and government projects, with a total value of $291,100; and seven were issued for residential projects, with a projected value of $184,765.

Parking stalls removed on Main Street North

As of yesterday, the parking stalls on the west side of Main Street North from Ross to Saskatchewan Street have been removed by the City of Moose Jaw, in a bid to improve traffic flow and safety.

The City says that the move will ensure sufficient clearance of all four lanes of travel, noting that parking on the east side of Main Street is already prohibited north of Oxford Street East.

Letters have been sent to affected homeowners and businesses in the area.

Stop by the Town N Country Mall April 26 and watch them race their Beaver Buggys, Cub Cars, and Scout Semis down the track. 

This is the first time their annual rally will be open to the public. You’re invited to check out the hand-made vehicles, enjoy some snacks at the concession, and you will also have the opportunity to try racing some of the cars yourself. 

Elsie Elizabeth Graff

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Elsie Elizabeth Graff, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 91 years on Friday, March 28th, 2025. 

Elsie was born on November 25th, 1933, in Blue Wing, Manitoba.  She married her husband Fred on October 3rd, 1953, and together they moved to Moose Jaw, SK to start their life journey.  Elsie worked various jobs until her retirement.  After retirement, her and Fred would load up their camper van and hit the road.  Elsie was a long-time member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.

Tyler Lister is a Moose Jaw guy who took a life-saving flight in a STARS helicopter from Moose Jaw to Regina to get the specialized care he needed as he battled to breathe due to pneumonia.

Canada downs Norway to move to 6-1 at BKT World Men's Curling Championship

Canada moved into a tie with China for first place after an 8-3 win over Norway in the Wednesday morning draw at the BKT World Men's Curling Championship at the Temple Garden Centre.

The Canadians improved to 6-1, tied with China, while three teams were clustered at 5-2.

"I think one of the main things we need to continue to do right now and moving forward is just stay mentally strong. We’ve played seven games, and we’ve got five more to go. We just have to make sure we get good rest and recovery between games here," said Canada's skip Brad Jacobs.

Calving season going well in Saskatchewan as snow melts and producers prepare

With the weather warming and spring coming to the prairies, producers have been going through calving season with plenty of work for them. 

Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan Vice-President Chris Procyk says that, from what he's heard, it's been a decent season in the province.
