The Federal Government needs to put more of a focus on Agriculture

The issue of trade and tariffs is on the mind of everyone involved in agriculture.

President of the Canadian Federation of Agriculture (CFA), Keith Currie says there was a lot of uneasiness - especially in the agriculture sector -  back in January when President Trump first started talking about tariffs, but then we didn't know exactly what that would involve.  

City urges caution, advises drivers of new rules as back-to-school season ramps up

With the first day of school around the corner, the City of Moose Jaw is advising parents and drivers to be on the lookout for significant changes to parking rules and bus locations around city schools. New signage has been installed over the summer to improve safety and standardize traffic control, and officials are urging extra vigilance to ensure a safe start to the academic year.

'How does this happen?': Luhning presses administration on roadwork frustrations

Voicing the frustrations of many local drivers, Councillor Dawn Luhning engaged in a pointed series of inquiries with administration during Monday’s regular Moose Jaw City Council meeting, seeking answers on confusing roadwork, messy construction sites, and a months-long traffic light issue.

The exchange highlighted the critical role of council in demanding accountability for the public works projects that residents experience every day.  

Biette claims Provincial Title, eyes national stage

Fresh off a dramatic playoff win at the 20th Annual Saskatchewan Open Provincial Championships, Moose Jaw’s Drew Biette is setting his sights on the national stage. He’ll be competing at the Canadian Disc Golf Championship in Port Hope, Ontario, the weekend of September 13.

Biette secured first place in the Mixed Pro Open Division at the Deja Vu Disc Golf Course after a tense tiebreaker against a fellow competitor, clinching the win on hole one. “It was a great tournament,” Biette said. “We had amazing tournament directors, and the playoff made it even more exciting.”

City's finances stables at mid-year mark, though bridge construction dents ticket revenue

The City of Moose Jaw’s financial health remains stable halfway through 2025, with a strong revenue stream and expenditures largely on track, according to the second quarter financial report presented to City Council on Monday, August 25.

Early grant payments have bolstered the city’s income, but a notable drop in revenue from fines and penalties — attributed directly to reduced speed enforcement during the Main Street bridge construction — highlights how major infrastructure projects can have unexpected financial ripple effects.

Saskatchewan finalizes trade mission to Asia

The dates are set Premier Scott Moe's trade mission to Asia runs September 6th to 12th.

It's a very important region for the province ... In 2024, Saskatchewan exported over $10 billion to Asia—$4.4 billion to China, $929 million to Japan and 162 million to South Korea.

The goal is to reinforce future trade opportunities and engage with China on their temporary duties on peas and canola.

The Premier has invited Prime Minister Mark Carney and any other federal ministers  to join the trade mission.

Farmland a buyers’ market?

The farmland market in Saskatchewan may be tilting toward the buyer.

It’s not there yet because sellers still have the upper hand, but real estate agents in the province say more land may soon come up for sale, thus tipping the scales in favour of buyers.

As of August 2025, 265 farmland properties were posted on the MLS system in Saskatchewan. That’s down drastically from 2020, when the number of farms for sale was close to 500.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Gerald (Jerry) Bjorgan, on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025.  Gerald was born Oct 1st, 1944 and grew up on the family farm near Waldron, SK.  He met our mom, Verna, and they were married in June of 1970.  They moved to Moose Jaw in 1973 and raised the family there.
