Peace Garden Venue set for major upgrade

A grant from the province of Manitoba will allow the International Peace Garden (IPG) to move forward with improvements to the Errick Willis Pavilion.

The Errick Willis Pavilion has an upper level and lower level available for rental. Both upper and lower levels seats about 100 (200 total, if both are rented). There is a staircase that links the two levels together. Both levels offer an amazing view of Lake Stormon.

The Province of Manitoba has stepped forward with a grant of $875,000 through the Arts, Culture, and Sport in Community Fund.

ACC administering grants to small and medium sized enterprises

Assiniboine Community College has a new agriculture-based grant of $50,000 to support partnerships with small-to-medium size enterprises (SMEs) through the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP).

The grant, formally known as a Contribution to Organization (CtO), will allow the college to provide short-term scientific or technical assistance to Canadian for-profit SMEs.

Peace Garden planning to host tourism summit in May

The International Peace Garden (IPG) wants to bring communities together to talk about working more closely together to help improve tourism in the region.

The IPG is a popular tourist spot south of Boissevain that attract thousands of visitors every year.

CEO Tim Chapman says they plan to hold the Turtle Mountain Tourism Summit on May 4th. The inaugural Tourism Summit, sponsored by Travel Manitoba with support from North Dakota Tourism.

Follow-up: Camp Bridges returning in May

Prairie Mountain Health is organizing the 15th Annual Camp Bridges, a weekend camp for bereaved children and teens.

The camp hasn’t taken place since 2019 because of the pandemic and camp planners are eager to get back up and running in 2023. Camp Bridges will be held at Circle Square Ranch, Austin MB on May 26, 27 and 28, 2023.

Baldur Hall upgrade nearing completion

Work on improvements to Baldur’s Memorial Hall should be done by mid to late February.

The aging hall was in need of some improvements and the local municipality applied for grants and did some fund raising to make the project a reality.

Colleen VanWynsberghe is the recreation director for the RM of Argyle and helped organize the renovation project. “We’re currently redoing our kitchen. We've dismantled the kitchen and have purchased new kitchen counters, cupboards and flooring and it’s going to look fantastic.”

Beef producers gathering for AGM in Winnipeg for first time

It has been a couple of years since members of the Manitoba Beef Producers have been able to meet for their annual meeting but that changes this week when MBP delegates gather in Winnipeg for two days of meetings.

The 44th AGM will cover a variety of topics and President Tyler Fulton of Birtle looks forward to a productive session. "We're excited to be back in person and seeing people we haven't seen over the past number of years. We have had a number of in person district meetings in the fall but it's not the same as the annual meeting."

Cullen ready for new role in government as Finance Minister

Spruce Woods MLA Cliff Cullen is into the twilight of his provincial political career, and he has taken on a new role with the Province of Manitoba.

In Monday’s cabinet shuffle Cullen was named Finance Minister, minister responsible for Manitoba Hydro and he remained Deputy Premier. Premier Heather Stefanson has rejigged her Cabinet, in part, to fill portfolios left by departing MLAs such as Cameron Friesen. His role as the province's Finance minister was handed over to MLA Cliff Cullen.
