Community Hall upgrade in Somerset scheduled for this summer
The Somerset Community Hall Committee has received a $15,000.00 grant from the Westoba Credit Union Inspire Program to create accessible washroom facilities at the Somerset Community Hall.
The funds will be used to update the hall facilities to meet current accessibility requirements. "The current handicap stalls are not large enough for a person in a wheelchair to be able to use the washroom, and the sinks are also not accessible for someone in a wheelchair," said Rick Sierens President of the Somerset Community Hall Board.

The board members of the Rock Lake United Church camp were pleased to see so many people show up for their annual general meeting Sunday afternoon in Crystal City.
Due to a lack of staff the youth summer camps have been cancelled for 2023 but board chair David Manning says discussions at the AGM made it clear church members want to do whatever is needed to get the July and August camps back in 2024.
Roads washed out in the RM of Killarney
Overland flood waters are impacting a number of roads in the Municipality of Killarney Turtle Mountain.
Mayor Janice Smith says crews working and monitoring the rural roads report several have water issues and a few have been closed. “We’re pretty wet and the roads are soft. About 70 per cent of the roads south of town have water running over them.”
Smith hopes rainfall amounts don’t climb too high because that could put the municipality in what she calls a troublesome spot.
Boissevain’s boil water advisory in place for a few days
Work to repair a water line leak in Boissevain got underway Monday morning but it would be mid week at the earliest before a boil water advisory can be lifted.
Town foreman Doug Harper said an aging clamp on a water line on Stephen Street let go and caused the leak. Water samples will be sent to a lab in Winnipeg for testing before the advisory is lifted.
“The rule is that you have to have two consecutive tests pass and that’s one test per day before we can lift the boil water advisory,” said Doug Harper.
