Moose Jaw wrestler Justin Abdou has gotten the call to the hall, as he is being inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame on Saturday. The SSHOF announced its class of 2021 last year, with Abdou being inducted as an athlete. Their 54th annual induction ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina.

Abdou is a nine-time Canadian champion, the Cadet world champion in 1987 and won gold at the 1994 Commonwealth Games.

He would go on to wear the maple leaf, representing Canada at the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics.

Monday, September 19th has been proclaimed a day in tribute and commemoration of the life of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Government of Saskatchewan.

While the day has been designated a federal holiday for federal employees, it has not been designated as a provincial public statutory holiday.

"Her late Majesty's seven decades of selfless public service is an honourable legacy," Premier Scott Moe said. "We will pay tribute to her incredible dedication and commemorate her 70-year reign in a memorial service in our capital city - the Queen City."

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds have announced the cancellation of a couple more air shows. The 431Air Demonstration Squadron based out of 15 Wing Moose Jaw has been on an operation pause since Aug. 2 after a spare jet crash landed in Fort St. John, B.C. 

The Snowbirds have cancelled their performances at the Canadian International Air Show in Toronto this weekend and a London Ontario air show from Sept. 9 to 11.

The provincial government is forecasting a $1.04 billion surplus in 2022-2023, according to the first quarter report from Finance Minister Donna Harpauer. 

This would be a $1.51 billion improvement from what was budgeted and is due largely to higher revenue from non-renewable resources. 

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds CT-114 Tutor fleet has been ordered to be grounded until a “deliberate, detailed and broad” airworthiness risk assessment can be completed. 

In a statement released by the Royal Canadian Air Force, the operational pause comes after one of the 431 Air Demonstration Squadron's spare aircraft crashed in Fort St. John, B.C. on Aug. 2. 

The Saskatchewan Sportfish Research Group from the University of Regina recently found Prussian Carp in Lake Diefenbaker. 

Prussian Carp are considered an invasive species because they can reproduce rapidly, are aggressive and can take over the habitat of more native fish species. 

Four areas around Saskatchewan broke record temperatures on Thursday. 

Coronach was the province’s hot spot with a high of 38.6 degrees, breaking the old record of 37.2 set in 1964. 

Further south, Assiniboia recorded a daytime high of 37.7 degrees, which broke the previous record of 35 degrees set back in 1983.

"Despite all of the safety precautions that are taken, incidents do happen and it's heart-breaking in the air show world," the post read.

Saskatchewan Finance Minister Donna Harpauer is defending her decision to take an $8,000 charter flight from Regina to North Battleford. 

According to a Canadian Press report, Harpauer took the flight on March 25 to attend a Chamber of Commerce Luncheon as part of her budget tour across the province. 

She said looking at the bill for one flight isn’t fair as her travelling expenses are quite low.
