'Fasten your seatbelts': New fuel regulations to increase gas by 30 cents by 2030

Southeast Saskatchewan residents and Canadians across the country are in for a rough ride come 2025 according to Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague. 

This comes after the federal government implemented new fuel regulations on July 1, which aim to reduce carbon emissions by replacing the more polluting fossil fuels with cleaner alternatives by 2030. 

Regina airport preparing for possible interruptions, as WestJet strike looms

Passengers flying with WestJet from the Regina International Airport may have their travel impacted this weekend if a deal is not reached between the pilots and their employer.  

On Monday, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), which represents around 1,600 flight crew at WestJet, issued a 72-hour strike notice, which will take effect on Friday at 3:00 a.m. MT.  

How to be emergency ready for when disaster strikes

This week from May 7 to 13 is Emergency Preparedness Week across Canada.  

It couldn’t come at a better time with much of northern Saskatchewan and parts of Alberta dealing with massive forest fires.  

Even though Emergency Preparedness Week only happens once a year, the City of Moose Jaw’s Emergency Measures Operation Coordinator (EMO), Mike Russell says that people should always be ready for a natural disaster to strike.  

Financial expert says paying down debt is a person's best investment

Rising interest rates in recent months have started to take a toll on homeowners when it comes to paying their mortgage each month.  

Aaron Ruston, a financial advisor with Purposed Financial in Moose Jaw believes people are facing struggles because they have overextended themselves.  

“As equity values were going up in their home, they were borrowing on them. They were taking lines of credit,” says Ruston.  

Diesel prices on their way down: Fuel expert

Last week, the price of gasoline spiked anywhere from 6-9 cents to as high as 156.9 cents per litre.  

The jump is due to refineries changing over from winter to summer gasoline, which causes a limited production amount and therefore the prices have increased.  

The change in season is having the reverse effect on the price of diesel. As of Monday afternoon, diesel prices are inching closer to being on par with gasoline, with some of them already there. Prices in Humboldt are tracking at 174.9 cents per litre for diesel as of Wednesday.

CAA Saskatchewan out in full force with weekend storm system

Whiteout conditions covered most of southern Saskatchewan last weekend, as a winter storm system swept through the region with strong winds and lots of snow.  

This kept CAA Saskatchewan roadside assistance crews busy not only in Swift Current but around the province helping stranded motorists that might have fallen victim to the harsh conditions.  

WHL issues sanctions to 4 Warriors players, head coach, general manager

The Western Hockey League (WHL) announced on Friday that sanctions have been handed out to the Moose Jaw Warriors following the completion of an independent investigation. 

The investigation looked into violations of team rules and WHL Standard Codes of Conduct.

Rising fuel prices expected to continue: GasBuddy petroleum analyst

The price of regular gasoline in Estevan has risen by 10 cents or more at some places recently, and it's a trend that an expert in the field expects to continue.

According to Patrick DeHaan, a GasBuddy Petroleum Analyst, increases in fuel prices are a trend that is forecasted to continue in the coming weeks and even months.  

Sasktel and Crime Stoppers team up for Fraud Prevention Month

With March being Fraud Prevention Month, Sasktel and Crime Stoppers have teamed up to share some tips on how to protect yourself from online fraud and cyber scams.

Greg Jacobs, an external communications manager with Sasktel explains that there are five ways people can avoid falling victim to online fraud.  

“One of the biggest things you can do is enable multi-factor authentication on your digital accounts that offer that type of protection,” says Jacobs. “This is usually offered by your bank, and major online shopping outlets.  

Water Security Agency performing snow surveys throughout February

Throughout the remainder of February, the Water Security Agency (WSA) will be traveling around the province performing snow surveys at over a hundred sites.  

The spokesperson for the WSA, Patrick Boyle says that the idea around the survey is to get a better idea of what the spring runoff will be in 2023.
