Buttar bucked off at Medicine Hat Stampede
It was a rough night in Medicine Hat on Thursday for Eatonia's Dakota Buttar, who was bucked off his bull ride on the opening night of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede pro rodeo.
"It was a good bull, I've seen him lots," Buttar said after his ride. "Today's history, and I've got another one tomorrow, and I'll see if I can do better tomorrow."
Buttar is coming off sharing the Calgary Stampede bull riding championship with Shane Proctor, who both split the $50,000 grand prize after matching each other in a ride-off on the championship round.
Buttar headlines rodeo field at Medicine Hat Stampede
The pro rodeo at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede gets underway today and there will be no shortage of talent from the southwest.
Eatonia’s Dakota Buttar and Maple Creek's Jared Parsonage will be competing in tonight’s bull riding round, just weeks after they squared off in Showdown Sunday at the Calgary Stampede where Dakota came away as the co-champion.
Hazenmore’s Chanse Switzer and Lancer’s Chad Hartman are also in the bull riding.
Saskatchewan flag creator Anthony Drake passes away
Anthony Drake, a former Hodgeville school teacher who designed the provincial flag of Saskatchewan over 50 years ago, passed away on Wednesday at his home in England at the age of 81.
Drake and his wife, Joan, moved from England to Hodgeville and taught at the school there from 1967 to 1969. It was in 1969 that Drake submitted a design for a contest to determine Saskatchewan’s new provincial flag, with his design being selected out of over 4000 entries.
