Lake of the Woods 'appears to have crested,' when will water levels drop?
Lake of the Woods appears to have crested, according to the Lake of the Woods Control Board.
Now many are wondering when Lake of the Woods will return to normal summer levels, a question that isn't easily answered.
"As was the case while the lake was rising, it is not possible to develop a forecast for the rate of drop in the level over the long term because the rainfall is unknown," said the LWCB in its Friday update.

Central Park redevelopment stopped by Kenora resident, province
As it stands, the City of Kenora’s plans to redevelop half of Central Park into housing have been stopped in their tracks after a decision from Ontario’s Land Tribunal.
The tribunal makes decisions on matters related to land use planning as well as environment and heritage protection. They’ve recently ruled in favour of Kenora resident Dawn Mitchell, who says the City of Kenora violated proper procedures when they rezoned Central Park last year.
Transportation costs cause deficit in Kenora Catholic’s 2023 Budget
Trustees with the Kenora Catholic District School Board have approved its 2022-2023 Budget with a slight shortfall.
Superintendent of Business Services, Alison Smith, says this year’s budget includes estimated expenses of $33 million with revenues of $32.8 million, representing a $145,206 deficit. Although, this is considered ‘balanced’ as the Ministry of Education allows boards to operate a 1 per cent deficit.
Waterfront property owners once again asking boaters to 'mind their wake'
Even though the water level on Lake of the Woods has begun to peak, wakes still remain an issue for many waterfront property owners.
Since we last spoke with Ernie Norlund in early June, he and his family have continued to deal with boaters throwing large wakes causing water to overtake his property.
Just since our last interview, Norlund says he has added a couple hundred more sandbags to his sandbag wall.
Speedway season opener
It was a great Sunday afternoon of racing for the season opener at Lake of the Woods Speedway.
Four classes entertained a big crowd at the track and a highlight was a visit from the Riverview Industries WISSOTA modifieds.
