Staff with the City of Kenora are working to install the brand-new Coney Island Footbridge, but some temporary revisions will need to be made.

At City Hall on Tuesday night, community members joined city staff as the City of Kenora held their official swearing-in ceremony for the newly-elected Mayor Andrew Poirier and Councillors Graham Chaze, Barb Manson, Bob Bernie, Kelsie Van Belleghem, Lisa Moncrief and Lindsay Koch.

NorWOSSA 'AA' court sports have come to an end after a full day of playoffs yesterday.

The Beaver Brae Broncos Senior Girls' Basketball teams went on to the finals after taking down the Fort Frances Muskies but ultimately fell to the Dryden Eagles in the finals 59-20.

It was the same thing for the Sioux North Warriors' Junior Girls. They won in the semi-final but fell in the championship game to Fort 36-18.

Schools could shut down by Monday as Ontario’s education workers have given another 5-day notice to strike.

“It will be a full strike on Monday but our goal is to get a deal done,” says CUPE’s Ontario School Board Council of Unions’ President, Laura Walton.

“From the beginning, we’ve been focused on improved jobs for education workers and improved services for students. For us, there is no one without the other,” Walton adds.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has complained to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about alleged media leaks, and accused him of harming diplomatic relations.

The two had a discussion Wednesday at an event during the G20 summit in Indonesia and media were able to record the brief conversation.

"Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper; that's not appropriate," Xi told Trudeau through an interpreter.

"That's not how, the way the conversation was conducted. If there is sincerity on your part --" Xi said, at which point Trudeau interrupted.

Highway 71 is closed after a collision.

The Ministry of Transportation says both lanes of Highway 71 are closed north of Sioux Narrows at White Moose Road, near Bunny Lake, due to a collision.

Firefighters with Sioux Narrows – Nestor Falls Fire Rescue Services are on scene. There are no reports of injuries at this time.
