RCMP in Alberta are grateful for a tip from the public that resulted in getting a dangerous driver from Steinbach off the road.

Strathmore RCMP received a report of a possible impaired driver on Highway 1 on October 1 at about 2 PM. 

A white utility van was reportedly swerving on the road, causing it to sometimes drift onto the shoulder. Strathmore RCMP responded to find the vehicle parked on the side of the Trans-Canada Highway, where the male driver had exited the van in a confused state. 

“Most people think about movies when they hear about a Scene card or a Scene+ card,” Lee Kotowicz, owner of Sobeys in Steinbach admits. “But it’s our new loyalty program, alongside Scotiabank and Cineplex.”

Sobeys in Steinbach has a new rewards system! Not a new name to frequent movie-goers, Scene and Scene+ cards have been around for quite some time. Kotowicz clarifies what makes this card more than just for movies.

BSI Insurance is hosting a Grand Re-opening today, October 4th, from noon until 2:00 PM, at their location in Steinbach’s Clearspring Centre.

It’ll be a great opportunity to meet people, see the new space, and a chance to win a $1500 travel voucher!

In addition to the travel voucher draw, Branch Manager Tammy Bydeley says there will be many reasons for everyone to join them in celebrating their new look.

After two years of virtual celebration, the 2022 Steinbach Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards will see a return to an in-person event on Tuesday, September 27th .

They hadn’t planned on holding a re-opening celebration this month, but on September 24th Best West Pet Foods will invite the public to explore their new location at 336 Main St. in Steinbach – the former Video Max across from Giant Tiger. 

It was a move necessitated by the July Main St. fire that devastated several local businesses. And while they’re still applying some finishing touches, the Best West staff are looking forward to seeing some friendly faces – and familiar pets – at the event.

A full century is a long time for any business to stick around, so it’s no wonder that Canadian Tire is doing it up right.

Reyn Kroeker from Canadian Tire in Steinbach says the staff had a great time decorating the store.

“We did go the whole nine yards with the balloons, it was a fun time for us!”

Times have changed since the first Canadian Tire store opened its doors in 1922, and the franchise has come a long way over the past ten decades.
