Barkman Appliance Service has sat at this intersection for the last decade, but the company itself has been part of the southeast business scene since 1983, with ownership passed down from father to son. 

Save your canned goods for now, and bring out the cash! While they do appreciate all donations, South East Helping Hands in Steinbach is currently looking for financial support for the coming months.  

“We’re asking for cash this time, because we need to pay for other stuff,” operations manager Ken Dyck explains.

Owners Kevin Brown and Scott Dillabough designed and built OMyBoard for their fellow volunteers. This volunteer board management web application aims at helping volunteer boards centralize tasks and documents, and is ideal for small groups that undergo changes regularly such as sports teams and community clubs.  

September brings a lot of seasonal change. This is when we see the shift back to school, with summer break ending, and autumn approaching. Hunting season is also coming up. But at GNM Fine Jewellers, hunters are after a different kind of game.  

“They’re already looking for our pink tags,” says Sales Manager Nick Lanteigne. “They know that’s where the deals are.”

Starting September 10, almost 50 Manitoba charities will be participating in One Great Lottery – a combined effort to raise awareness and funds across the province’s philanthropic landscape. South East Helping Hands is one of them, and operations manager Ken Dyck is excited to participate alongside other important organizations. 

“For many people, getting to an appointment at a clinic adds extra stress to an already stressful time. Having a physiotherapist who will come to you can allow the patient to relax in their own space, and focus more fully on the rehab process.”  

In the 50 years since it first began serving southeast Manitoba with cattle sales, Grunthal Livestock Auction Mart has seen a whole lot of change – and the steadfast support of the surrounding community. 

“The way we market livestock is not the way it was done even 25 years ago,” says Brad Kehler, who joined the auction mart in 2016. “We’ve had a lot of changes over the years, but we’re always trying to keep on the cutting edge of things in the industry. It’s been great.”
