Warriors drop tight battle against Blades on Saturday

Moose Jaw, SK — For the second straight night, the Moose Jaw Warriors had a lead through two periods, but couldn’t finish the job.

The Warriors surrendered three goals in the third period and dropped a 4-3 game to the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“We treated it like a playoff game, that’s for sure, but at the end of the day, you can win games in the third period and you can lose games and tonight, we lost a game in the third period,” Warriors forward Atley Calvert said after the game.

Warriors fall in shootout to Wheat Kings on Friday

Brandon, MB — Despite leading for much of the game, the Moose Jaw Warriors couldn’t finish the job in Brandon on Friday night.

The Warriors fell 5-4 to the Wheat Kings after a nine-round shootout.

“We had a two-goal lead in the third period and found a way to give two right back to them, so those situations, you’ve got to be able to lock it down and bring that thing home,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.

Missed opportunities sink Warriors against Rebels Wednesday

Moose Jaw, SK — There were scoring chances abound for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but it wasn’t their night at the offensive end.

The Warriors dropped a 5-1 game to the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

“We had enough good looks to win this game and it was a winnable game and we just weren’t able to get the job done,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said.

Firkus, Mateychuk & Yager invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp

 Jagger Firkus, Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager have received the call from Hockey Canada.

The trio of Moose Jaw Warriors were among the 30 players invited to attend Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship, which will be hosted in Gothenburg, Sweden.

“This is a big moment for these three players, the Warriors’ organization and the City of Moose Jaw,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said.

Mateychuk keeps point streak rolling, sets new franchise mark

Denton Mateychuk has been all gas, no brake this season for the Moose Jaw Warriors.

With three assists in Sunday’s 5-1 win over Edmonton, Mateychuk set a new franchise record for longest point streak in the modern era (1996-2023) at 21 games, breaking the mark set by Jagger Firkus last season.

“It’s a pretty cool moment,” Mateychuk said after the game. “Looking at all the players that have come through here, tons of good players, especially even [Firkus], we were just chuckling about it in the room after.”

Warriors sweep road trip, drop Oil Kings in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB — The Moose Jaw Warriors made it four straight wins on Sunday afternoon in Edmonton.

The Warriors got redemption for a loss one month before at Rogers Place, beating the Oil Kings, 5-1, to close out a two-game road trip to Alberta.

“There was lots of good parts for sure, a little bit sloppy at times, but I thought we started well and then in the third, we came out and played the right way,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.

Warriors fend off Rebels in Friday win

Red Deer, AB — The start of a two-game road trip to Alberta went exactly as planned for the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday night.

The Warriors scored a hard fought 5-2 win over the Red Deer Rebels at the Peavey Mart Centrium.

“They played a pretty physical game and I liked our push back and the fight that our group had,” Warriors assistant coach Curtis Pereverzoff said. “It was good to get the win there.”

Warriors doubled up by Broncos Friday night

Moose Jaw, SK — The Moose Jaw Warriors peppered the Swift Current Broncos’ net, but came up short on Friday night.

The Warriors ended up falling 6-3 to the Broncos at the Moose Jaw Events Centre to open up the weekend.

“We definitely generated enough looks to win the game, in saying that, I thought we obviously gave up too much,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.

The loss drops Moose Jaw’s record to 13-10-0-1 this season.

Warriors fight back, but fall in Saskatoon

Saskatoon, SK — You can never count the Moose Jaw Warriors out of a hockey game.

After falling behind 3-0 after two periods, the Warriors fought their way back to make it a close finish in Saskatoon before falling 3-2 to the Blades on Friday night.

“The first period was a sleepy period and second period, I don’t think we played that well, but we pushed in the third and made it a game, but it’s the old saying, too little, too late,” Warriors associate coach Scott King said.
