Residents encouraged to report vehicle for hire concerns

Grande Prairie Enforcement Services is reminding residents that any concerns about vehicle for hire passenger safety can be shared with the City of Grande Prairie. The notice follows a traffic stop last month by a Peace Officer who pulled over a taxi that was speeding 101 km/h in a 60 km/h zone while transporting a customer.  

GPREP enhances emergency communications with centralized social media accounts

Residents across the Grande Prairie region now have a direct source for emergency updates. The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) has launched dedicated social media accounts to provide timely, accurate information during wildfires, floods, and other large-scale emergencies.  

Residents are encouraged to follow @gprepalerts on Facebook and X, as all official communication from GPREP will be shared on these accounts during an emergency. 

'It's the Wild West': How AI is creating new frontiers for crime in Canada

Canadian police patrolling corners of the dark web are well aware of the commonly nefarious ways criminals exploit artificial intelligence. 

There's deepfake pornography. Voice impersonation. Romance scams that turn into financial fraud.

But recently there's been a new twist — criminals offering to "jailbreak" the very algorithms that form the architecture of AI's large language models, or LLMs, tearing down their safeguards so they can be retasked for criminal purposes.

Call it tech support for cybercriminals.

Trump's auto tariffs derail Carney's federal election campaign plans

Liberal Leader Mark Carney is back in Ottawa today to deal with the fallout of new auto tariffs announced by U.S. President Donald Trump. 

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Carney said he was suspending his campaign plans for the day and would return to Ottawa to hold a meeting of the Canada-U.S. cabinet committee.

It's unclear when Carney will be back on the road to continue campaigning.

As a former shepherd keeping watch over flocks in the wilderness, the composer of Psalm 23 understood the nature of sheep, including their bad habit of wandering. When one is attracted to a clump of grass away from the flock, off it goes, and sometimes it's followed by several other woolly wanderers. Soon, night falls. Lurking in the darkness are hungry wolves, four-legged savages, looking for a supper of mutton! The shepherd counts his sheep, calling them by name.

Residents invited to provide feedback on Pinnacle Ridge water feature levy

Residents of Pinnacle Ridge are invited to provide feedback on the $12.50 levy, which helps fund the operation and maintenance of the front entrance fountain and water feature.

The City is welcoming residents to discuss the levy at the following meetings:

Whitecourt RCMP conducts an arrest in elderly assault investigation

On March 9, 2025, Whitecourt RCMP received a call regarding the assault of a 69-year-old female in a wheelchair, following a break and enter. Whitecourt RCMP responded and subsequently located and arrested the suspect.
