Alberta RCMP major crimes unit investigates homicide in Manning

On March 16, 2025, at 2:25 p.m., Manning RCMP responded to a report that a deceased individual, later identified as Nathan Loonskin, a 38-year-old Paddle Prairie, Alta. resident, was located within a vehicle on Range Road 224, in Carcajou, Alta. The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed and has taken carriage of the investigation.

CSU traffic stop leads to arrest of wanted suspect

The Grande Prairie Police Service’s newly established Community Standards Unit (CSU) successfully apprehended a man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant following an incident the morning of March 26, 2025.  

At approximately 9:15 a.m., GPPS officers on patrol observed a traffic violation involving a taxi in downtown Grande Prairie. Officers initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle continued to drive for a short distance before stopping.

Alberta Health Services claims fired CEO kept confidential emails, seeking injunction

Alberta's health authority is claiming its fired former executive breached her employment agreement by holding on to confidential emails with information pertaining to allegations in a high-profile court case.

A new affidavit filed Wednesday by Alberta Health Services says the agency is looking to amend its statement of defence in light of the emails, which the agency says it only became aware of last week. 

Former children's pastor receives 30 years in prison for attempted murder

A former children's church pastor in Kansas has just received his sentence from the courts after attempting to murder his wife and their children.

Prime Minister Mark Carney hosting a meeting with Canada's premiers today as election campaign continues

For the second day in a row, Liberal Leader Mark Carney has been pulled away from campaigning to discuss U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs. 

Carney, in his role as prime minister, will meet virtually with Canada's premiers today to discuss the country's response to Trump's latest duties.

The president signed an executive order earlier this week to implement 25 per cent levies on all automobile and auto part imports — his latest move to upend global trade through a massive tariff agenda that pushed some automakers' stock prices down on Thursday.

Alberta putting $19M toward municipal flood and drought prevention

Alberta's government is putting $19 million toward municipal flood and drought prevention projects as part of its new budget.

Environment Minister Rebecca Schulz says eight municipalities as well as two Indigenous communities are to receive the grant funding.

She says the money will help build a new berm along the Bow River at Siksika First Nation and a retaining wall to protect the Slave Lake Airport.

Calgary is also to receive funding to improve a storm water ditch that connects the city to the nearby hamlet of Langdon.
