Transportation and Transit impacts for Canada Day Parade
Several road closures and transit impacts are in place throughout the day on Tuesday, July 1 to accommodate the Canada Day Parade taking place downtown.
The parade begins at 2 p.m., starting near Hillside School (108 Avenue and 94 Street) and proceeding along 100 Avenue to Northwestern Polytechnic’s Parking Lot B.

Road closures are in effect at the following times and locations to accommodate the parade:
Overnight traffic signal work at 97 Avenue and 100 Street on June 24
The City of Grande Prairie is completing traffic signal switchover work at the intersection of 97 Avenue and 100 Street on the evening of Tuesday, June 24.
Work begins at 8 p.m. and is expected to continue into the early morning hours of Wednesday, June 25, wrapping up by 1 a.m., weather permitting.
To reduce daytime traffic impacts, the operation is scheduled overnight. During the work, the intersection will function as a four-way stop with signage in place to guide drivers.
Nearby residents may experience some noise from machinery during the switchover.
Valleyview RCMP investigating homicide
On June 22, 2025, at approximately 6:15 a.m., Valleyview RCMP responded to a call on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. Upon arrival, one person was located deceased. RCMP Serious Crimes Branch has taken carriage of the homicide investigation.
At this time, it is believed that this was an isolated incident. There will be a heavy police presence on the Nation. Please avoid the immediate area and refrain from posting the actions of police on social media. This is for police and public safety.

RCMP identify second victim of Banff rockfall as man, 33, from Surrey, B.C.
The second person killed in a rockfall last week in Banff National Park has been identified as a 33-year-old man from Surrey, B.C.
RCMP did not provide a name and say no more information will be provided.
Two people were killed and three more injured when a slab of mountain gave way last Thursday, raining rock down on hikers at Bow Glacier Falls.
The three injured were later listed in stable condition.
The second deceased person has previously been identified as 70-year-old Jutta Hinrichs, a retired university professor from Calgary.
Parks Canada says site of fatal rockfall in Banff National Park remains closed
Parks Canada says the site remains closed where a rockfall killed two hikers and injured three more last week in Banff National Park.
Spokeswoman Amy Krause says safety is the agency's top priority and it is considering all options before reopening Bow Glacier Falls.
A slab of mountain broke loose last Thursday afternoon and rained rock down on a popular hiking trail near the falls, about 200 kilometres northwest of Calgary.
