Life after diagnosis: Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba offers guidance and community

September is World Alzheimer's Month, and a Winnipeg organization is shedding light on life after a diagnosis. 

"Our theme this month is Your Path Forward," says Erin Crawford, the CEO of the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba. "The reason we've picked that is because often, we hear from people when they get a dementia diagnosis, it is not clear what comes next. There's often a feeling of, 'Here's your diagnosis,' and then out the door."

Areas of Victoria Beach evacuated after WWII-era device found near community centre

Residents of Victoria Beach were asked to stay away from the local community centre and ball diamond following a shocking discovery. 

The Victoria Beach Police Service took to Facebook on Tuesday to alert the community that they had found what appeared to be a World War II-era bomb.

RCMP and the military explosive disposal unit were called in to assist the Victoria Beach Police Service.

New after-hours clinic opens at St. Boniface Hospital

A new medical clinic has opened in Winnipeg, giving residents another option for after-hours care.

The extended-hours primary care clinic is located at St. Boniface Hospital and is open every day from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekdays and 1 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on weekends.

"Our health does not adhere to a 9-to-5 weekday schedule and neither should our health care," said Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara in a press release. "This allows more options for everyday Manitobans balancing their busy schedules."

Canadian obstetricians say Tylenol is still safe to take in pregnancy after position review

A group representing Canada's obstetricians and gynecologists says it has reviewed evidence on Tylenol use during pregnancy and maintains that the painkiller is safe. 

The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada said on Monday that it has revisited its position in light of reports questioning whether there is a link between mothers taking acetaminophen while pregnant and autism in children. 

Liberals will table the federal budget on Nov. 4, Champagne says

Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne says the government will table the federal budget on Nov. 4.

The long-awaited spending plan will be the federal Liberals' first under Prime Minister Mark Carney and comes as Ottawa's budget watchdog says he's worried about a lack of fiscal prudence.

It also will be Champagne's first budget as finance minister. He announced the date during question period Tuesday.

He said the plan will offer a "generational investment" in Canada's future.

Man facing extradition after migrant family froze to death at Canada-U.S. border

Another man has been arrested in connection with a human smuggling operation that saw a migrant family freeze to death on the Canada-U.S. border near Emerson, Man.

Fenil Patel was arrested Sept. 5 on an extradition request from the United States, the Justice Department in Ottawa said Tuesday. The 37-year-old faces a hearing this week in Ontario Superior Court.
