Parents of Winnipeg infant facing child abuse charges
A 29-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man are facing child abuse charges after their daughter was brought to the hospital unresponsive and suffering from multiple injuries.
Winnipeg police say in September 2024, hospital officials alerted them of an infant that had been brought into the emergency room with suspicious injuries.
The Child Abuse Unit took over the investigation and determined the injuries to be a result of malnutrition and abuse.
City of Winnipeg takes next step in hiring new Chief Administrative Officer
The City of Winnipeg has officially started its search for a new Chief Administrative Officer.
On Wednesday, the city announced it issued a Request for Proposals to hire a consultant to assist in the search process.
Earlier this year the city also announced a CAO Hiring Committee, consisting of members from council, who will oversee the recruitment process. They include Mayor Scott Gillingham, Councillor Janice Lukes (Waverley West), Councillor Jeff Browaty (North Kildonan), Councillor Ross Eadie (Mynarski) and Councillor Devi Sharma (Old Kildonan).

5 million adults without primary care, surgeries returning to normal: CIHI report
A new report by the Canadian Institute for Health Information says 83 per cent of adults in this country have a regular primary-care provider, but that still leaves 5.4 million adults without one.
It says seniors 65 years and older are more likely to have access to a family doctor or nurse practitioner than younger adults between 18 and 34.
Access to primary care is highest in Ontario and lowest in Nunavut.

Search of Manitoba landfill for remains of slain First Nations women on track: Kinew
The effort to find the remains of two slain First Nations women believed to be in a landfill is on track and excavation in the target area is set to start in early December, Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew said Wednesday.
"I hope that everybody in the province and across the country sees that Manitoba values and honours Indigenous women," Kinew told reporters as he stood at the Prairie Green Landfill north of Winnipeg.
Kinew also addressed the families of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran, who joined him at the site.

Man mistakenly released from custody found and arrested in Gypsumville
A man who was mistakenly released from custody has been located and arrested by police.
Mark Phillip Traverse, 27, was arrested without incident on Oct. 23 at approximately 5:30 p.m. by members of the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU).
He was found in the Municipality of Gypsumville, Man., after being mistakenly released from custody on Oct. 22.
Traverse had been the subject of a public search, though police had reassured the public that he was not considered dangerous.
Police shoot aggressive dog after four people injured in Elmwood attack
A dog is dead after being shot by police, and four people are recovering from injuries following a dog attack on Stadacona Street in Winnipeg.
The Winnipeg Police Service says the incident took place on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2024, with police arriving to find the victims and the aggressive dog still on the loose.
Victims receive emergency medical care
Officers provided emergency care to a 16-year-old girl who had suffered serious upper-body injuries, applying a tourniquet before she was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
