Canadian Union of Postal Workers urges workers to reject contract offer

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is urging workers to reject Canada Post's latest contract offer.

Union national president Jan Simpson says a strong no vote would not only reject the offer, but also protect the integrity of the bargaining process.

The Canada Industrial Relations Board will hold the vote on the proposed deal starting next week.

Canada Post is at an impasse with the union representing roughly 55,000 postal service workers after more than a year and a half of talks.

Missing female from The Pas located safely

The 27-year-old female reported missing to The Pas RCMP has been safely located.

Officers believe she left The Pas to come to Winnipeg.

RCMP sent out a request for assistance on Friday morning, and later in the afternoon sent a follow up sharing that she has been located safetly.

The RCMP would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance.

Wildfire smoke triggers air quality warnings in north, south bracing for impact Saturday

Air quality warnings are in effect across central and northern Manitoba, with Environment Canada warning that wildfire smoke will spread into Winnipeg and much of the south by Saturday.

The alert for much of northern and central Manitoba cautions residents about deteriorating air quality and visibility caused by smoke, conditions expected to persist into the weekend.

"Smoke is causing or expected to cause very poor air quality and reduced visibility in some areas through the weekend," said Environment Canada in a joint statement with Manitoba Health.
