After nearly three decades of calling the plays from the sidelines, Brian Dobie is preparing to hang up his whistle.
Dobie announced to his football team on the weekend that the 2024 season will be his final quarter as head coach of the Manitoba Bisons football team, according to a press release from the University of Manitoba.
This season will mark Dobie’s 29th year as Head Coach, capping off a remarkable 50-year coaching career that began with a 21-year tenure at Churchill High School.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes announced Sunday the acquisition on loan of left-handed starting pitcher Mitchell Lambson from the Saraperos de Saltillo of the Mexican Baseball League.
Lambson won an American Association championship with the Goldeyes in 2017 and was named the league’s Pitcher of the Year following the 2019 season, during which he went 13-4 with a 3.11 earned run average.

28-year-old man dead after being struck by vehicle on Pembina Highway
The Winnipeg Police Service is looking for footage after a 28-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed along Pembina Highway.
The crash happened early Saturday ar around 4 a.m. at Pembina Highway and Adamar Road.
When police arrived on scene they found a badly injured man. He was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he later died of his injuries.
Police say the man was walking eastbound across Pembina Highway near Adamar, when he was struck by a southbound vehicle.

Richard Ireland told an online news conference on Saturday that details on the exact time of the announcement haven't been finalized, but news on the date when people will be permitted back into the town will be delivered by members of the unified command on Monday.
About 20,000 visitors to Jasper National Park and 5,000 town residents were forced out last month due to fires, and flames destroyed one-third of the town's buildings.

Juat before 2 a.m., officers responded to the Harry Lazerenko Bridge where they found a woman suffering from serious injuries.
When emergency crews arrived, the woman had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Winnipeg police say the woman was lying kn thr ground when she was struck by a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and spoke with investigators.
