Spring cleanup underway in Winnipeg
A major spring cleanup is officially underway in Winnipeg.
Starting Sunday, crews will begin freshening up the city working street by street cleaning up roadways, bridges, sidewalks, pathways, alleys, boulevards and litter and debris in public parks.
The cleanup is expected to take six weeks to complete, with active transportation routes being the first to be cleaned.
The operation will take 300 pieces of equipment to complete and around 500 workers.
During this time, Winnipeggers are reminded to know their zone and check regularly for no-parking signs.
Poilievre pledges veterans' supports; Carney offers cheaper access to parks, museums
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre promised to cut red tape and step up support for veterans Saturday, while Liberal Leader Mark Carney pledged to make visiting national parks and museums more affordable for Canadian families.
Poilievre unveiled his party's plan for veterans during a press conference in Nepean, the suburban Ottawa community that contains the neighbouring ridings where he and Carney are running.
Carney did not have any public events scheduled. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's itinerary shows he will hold an evening event in Timmins, Ont.
Police fire on stolen vehicle before crash and explosion in West End
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has launched an investigation after Winnipeg police officers opened fire on a stolen pickup truck Friday evening.
Just before 6 p.m. on Friday, officers noticed a stolen vehicle being driven down Home Street, between Portage Avenue and St. Matthews Avenue.
To stop the truck, officers placed one of their cruisers in the middle of Home Street between St. Matthews and Ellice Avenues.

Warkentin was obtained from the Frontier League’s Ottawa Titans in exchange for a player to be named later.
