Prairie Basketball League to showcase top talent at first all-star weekend

Slam dunks, flashy plays and range beyond the arc: things the top basketball players from the southeast will be showing off this weekend. 

Prairie Basketball League’s (PBL) All-Stars and visiting Winnipeg club and university teams will be at the Steinbach Regional Secondary School (SRSS) Gold Gym on Saturday, June 3 for PBL’s All-Star Weekend.

The first weekend of June is packed with events happening in communities around southeast Manitoba. 

We are kicking off the month at the Lorette Fun Days on Saturday, June 3, at the Lorette Community Complex. The three-day event runs from Friday, June 2 to Sunday, June 4 and is packed with festivities and activities for the whole family.

Local volleyball player to compete in Toronto as one of top high school players

A local 17-year-old volleyball player will have the opportunity to play on the national stage. 

The best Canadian high school volleyball players will compete at the Inaugural Biosteel All Canadian Girls Volleyball Game this weekend at the University of Toronto. Grunthal’s Sienna Driedger is one of them. 

"I found out I was kind of being considered for it but didn't know I'd been selected until a few weeks later, and I got the email while I was in class,” Driedger recalls, adding that she was in ELA class.

The sixth annual Ride for Mom event is happening next Saturday, June 3. The event is hosted by Eastman ATV in support of CancerCare Manitoba.

This last weekend of May is packed with events worth checking out to wrap up the month. 

On Saturday, May 27, we will be at M.A. Querel Community Park in Woodridge for the second annual Car Show on the Ridge. 

Auto enthusiasts from across Manitoba and northwestern Ontario gather to showcase their cars, trucks, race cars, Rat Rods, motorcycles, snowmobiles, semi-trucks, tractors and projects they have been working on.
