Southeast seeing freezing precipitation as cold front set to sweep through

A system positioning itself on top of the southeast today has the chance to bring some very nasty weather. Environment Canada is calling for a mixed possibility of flurries and rainfall over the area today, with a chance of that developing into freezing rain.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Stephen Berg says that comes in with a bit of cold which is creating a downturn in temperatures.

It doesn't seem to matter where you go in the country, you will find a lot of pheasants along the roads. I almost feel like I'm in a parade when heading north on the 47, just north of the bypass. You'll experience pheasants on your left, pheasants on your right.

Whitecap, Veren to combine in $15 billion deal

A major shakeup in the oil industry this morning, with Whitecap Resources and Veren Inc announcing they will be combining in a $15 billion transaction. This new combined company will see Veren and Whitecap operate together under the Whitecap name, with four of the directors of Veren, including the current President and CEO Craig Bryksa, joining the Whitecap Board of Directors.  

The merger between the two companies is expected to close before May 31st.

The Bank of Canada's interest rate announcement arrives on Wednesday in a cloud of uncertainty thanks to a shifting trade war with the United States.

Most economists expect the central bank will deliver another quarter-point rate cut while it waits to see how long the dispute with Canada's largest trading partner lasts.

The Bank of Canada faces a difficult task: setting monetary policy at a time when inflation has shown signs of stubbornness and the economy picks up steam, while risks of a sharp downturn tied to U.S. tariffs loom on the horizon.

Liberals turn to transition plans after Mark Carney installed as new leader

Liberal MPs are gathering on Parliament Hill this afternoon to huddle after the party selected its new leader, former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney.

Carney is heading into a day full of briefings and in the coming days will need to be sworn in as prime minister, tap his cabinet and sort out his party's battle plans for the coming federal election — but the exact timeline for all these things remains unclear.
