Canada's inflation rate climbed back up to two per cent in October, shifting expectations slightly in favour of a smaller, quarter-percentage point interest rate cut next month. 

The report from Statistics Canada on Tuesday said prices in October increased at a faster annual pace in five out of the eight major components of the consumer price index.

A major driving factor of the uptick in headline inflation was gasoline prices on an annual basis falling to a lesser extent in October compared with September.

After what could be described as a fierce campaign, Kirsten Walliser was voted to return for another term at Estevan's city council.

UPDATE: RCMP has confirmed that the truck was recovered last night. 

No further details were provided. 

Weyburn RCMP is looking for assistance for another stolen vehicle in the southeast. 

Authorities describe the vehicle as a white 2013 Ford F550, which was stolen at a property in the northern part of Weyburn. The truck has a "South Sask Rathole" signage on the side. It also has a red slip tank and a silver toolbox at the back. 

The license plate at the time of theft is 727 JAN issued in Saskatchewan. 

The first heavy snowfall of the season has already caused some issues on the roads within the city.

A little after 10:00 a.m., Estevan Police Service responded to a vehicle that crashed into a tree on King Street. Eyewitnesses said that the pickup truck skidded onto the slippery road, crossed passed the opposite lane, and hit the tree. 

EMS was called to the scene to assess the driver, who was later taken to the hospital. At this time, there's no word as to what the condition of the driver is or if they suffered any injuries. The scene was cleared off within the hour. 

As of 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 6, 2025, the hours of operation at 35 land ports of entry across Canada will be adjusted.

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) announced the changes Monday, calling them a collaborative effort with the United States to enhance security for both countries. The CBSA said the adjustments would also help allocate resources more efficiently by concentrating officers at busier ports of entry. This is expected to improve the processing of travellers and goods while bolstering enforcement activities.

Environment Canada is calling for heavy snowfall in the majority of southeast Saskatchewan for the next couple of days. The fresh snow also brings strong winds causing questionable driving conditions on the highways. 

Health and Addictions Minister Ya'ara Saks is looking for pitches to help young Canadians who are struggling with their mental health.

The federal government plans to distribute $500 million for projects that help young people struggling to afford private mental health care services.

The funding comes from the five-year Youth Mental Health Fund announced in the spring federal budget to tackle the stress, anxiety and depression young people are facing amid a high cost of living and global uncertainty.
