MPs, diplomats and political staff gathered around the parliamentary precinct to anxiously take in preliminary results of a U.S. presidential election that they all agreed would have an enormous impact on Canada and the world.

"There's a lot of nervous energy in the room tonight," said Gary Keller, who was chief of staff to John Baird, the former Conservative foreign minister.

"This one has so much potential impact on our economy, our society."

With the ground about to freeze across the prairies, many farmers are getting soil sampling done before the end of the year.

Testing out just what's in many farmer's grounds is a key part of making sure you know what's under the surface and what might need to go in.

Warren Ward, an agronomy specialist with the Canola Council of Canada, talks about the necessity of that testing.

The Celebration of LIfe for Guenter Strempler will be held Saturday, November 9th at 1pm at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street, with burial prior to the service at 11am at Green Acre Cemetery.

Mary Klassen nee Wiebe, 78, of Winkler passed away Monday, November 4th at Salem Home. She is survived by her husband Jake W. Klassen, 2 daughters, and 3 sons. She was predeceased by 2 sisters, 2 brothers and grandson Tyler.
A memorial service for Mary Klassen nee Wiebe will be held Saturday, November 9th at 2pm at Winkler EMMC with burial at Reinland Mennonite Church, Schanzenfeld.

Tina Kehler, 87, of Steinbach passed away Sunday, November 3rd at Bethesda Regional Health Centre. She is survived by her husband John, 2 daughters, and their families. She was predeceased by all of her siblings. 
A memorial service for Tina Kehler will be held Thursday, November 7th at 2pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. The interment will take place at Heritage Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Thursday, Nov 7.

The head of the United Nations refugee agency says it is wise of Canada to scale back the number of new refugees it plans to resettle if that helps stabilize the housing market and prevents backlash against newcomers.

Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, met with the prime minister in Ottawa on Monday.
