Minister says Canadian Forces to help stranded Air India passengers in Iqaluit
Canada's emergency preparedness minister says the passengers of an Air India flight that landed in Iqaluit due to a bomb threat remain stuck there, and he has approved a request for the military to help them.
Harjit Sajjan posted on X late Tuesday that the airline "hasn't found a solution" after the plane landed in Nunavut's capital with 211 passengers on board earlier in the day and that they are "stranded."

As temperatures get colder Samaritan House Ministries is already preparing for the folks and families who frequent their food bank, as well as their safe & warm shelter.
"We've been averaging anywhere between 25-30 people each night," shares Executive Director, Barb McNish. "Our numbers have been steady at the safe and warm shelter. People come in whether it's hot or it's rainy. When it's cold of course we're going to see more, but throughout the summer we saw an average of about 30 people a night."
FCC releases 2024 Mid Year Farmland Values Report
Farm Credit Canada's mid-year report shows cultivated farmland values rose by an average of 5.5 per cent nationally for the first half of 2024.
Over the 12 months from July 2023 to June 2024, there was a 9.6 per cent increase, representing a slowdown compared to the previous 12-month period (January to December 2023).
FCC's Vice President and Chief Economist J.P. Gervais says for the second consecutive year, Saskatchewan recorded the highest average six-month increases at 7.4 per cent, Alberta was at 4.6 per cent, and Manitoba 3.9 per cent.

The application deadline has come and gone in Manitoba's PC leadership race, and the party has confirmed two candidate packages have been submitted.
They are from Fort Whyte MLA, Obby Kahn, and Manitoba businessman, Wally Daudrich.
Obby Khan submitted his completed application on Wednesday, October 2nd. The LEC has completed its review of Mr. Khan’s application and conducted a candidate interview. The LEC confirms that Mr. Obby Khan has been approved to run in the PC Party’s leadership race.
Killarney 4-H Beef Club being revived - Parent Info meeting Wednesday
The Killarney 4-H Beef Club is being revived, and there are already families who are signing on as members, volunteers and leaders.
Andrea Bertholet and her family raise mainly Simmental beef cattle just east of Killarney, in the Holmfield area. Through many conversations with fellow parents, she's championed the revival of what once was a thriving 4-H Beef Club in the Killarney area. Her two children have been attending the Clearwater 4-H Beef Club, but after much prompting from other parents she thought it was time to bring the program home.

On October 14th at 11:04PM police received a call of a man choking a woman at Cornell Bay. The 42-year-old male was an ex of the 38-year-old female. The victim did not require medical assistance. Suspect was located by police in the area, arrested, and held in detention cells for court in the morning on October 15th, 2024.

Annual inflation falls to 1.6% in September, raises odds of 50-basis-point rate cut
The chances of a half-percentage point interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada became more likely Tuesday after Statistics Canada reported annual inflation fell to 1.6 per cent in September.
Economist Tu Nguyen of accounting and consultancy firm RSM Canada said she had expected the inflation rate to remain close to the central bank's two per cent target, where it was in August, for a few more months.
"This is one of the instances where I'm happy to be wrong," she said.
