Bill Vigars, campaign manager for Terry Fox Marathon of Hope, dies at 78
Bill Vigars, who led the promotion of Terry Fox's Marathon of Hope in 1980, has died at the age of 78.
His wife, Sherry MacDonald, confirmed the news in an interview, saying Vigars died of congestive heart failure on Thursday surrounded by loved ones at a hospital in White Rock, B.C. She said he fought a "long, tough battle" that began when he had a heart attack in June.
Vigars is survived by his wife, two children, a stepson and one grandson. He will be honoured at a private ceremony of life early next year, MacDonald said.
Thankful Hearts: To give and to receive during Foodgrains Bank Learning Tour in Nepal
Early in 2024, Manitoba Regional Rep for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, Gordon Janzen, participated in a CFB learning tour to Nepal, along with five other Manitobans keenly interested in the ag sector and the projects affiliated with the Foodgrain Bank.
Janzen had strong connections with that part of the world as his parents spent three years in India and then in Nepal; his father a doctor and his mother, a nurse. Janzen himself spent a number of years in both countries and so was not unfamiliar with the cultures and dynamics of Nepal.

The Miller Aces and Morden Thunder captured the Provincial A-AA-AAA High School Soccer championship banners Saturday in Minnedosa. Miller defeated the Garden Valley Zodiacs 3-1 in the girls final while Morden shaded GVC 2-1 in the boys final. Minnesoda/Erickson beat Oscar Lathlin 5-0 in the girls consolation final. The host Chancellors blanked Niverville 1-0 in the boys third place. Minnedosa’s Grady Burton and Zach Lamb were named tournament All-Stars.

Employee Assaulted after confronting Shoplifter
On October 11th, 2 females were involved in a theft from a business in the 900 block of 18th St. N. When one of the females was confronted, she assaulted the employee and fled, leaving the merchandise behind. The second female suspect stole approximately $270 worth of merchandise. Both suspects were located and arrested. A 13yr old youth was charged with Theft Under $5,000 and will appear in Court in November, while the 19yr old was charged with Robbery with Violence and is scheduled to appear in Court in December.

Helen Neufeld, 94, of Winnipeg formerly of Crystal City passed away Tuesday, October 8th at Kildonan Personal Care Centre. She is survived by 5 children and their families. She was predeceased by her husband George Neufeld.
The funeral service for Helen Neufeld will be held Wednesday, 11am at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg with burial at Crystal City Cemetery on Friday, October 18th at 11am.
Viewing will be at Friends Funeral Service prior to the service.
Former public safety minister didn't know about delayed spy warrant, he tells inquiry
Former public safety minister Bill Blair told a federal inquiry Friday he had no knowledge about delays in approving a spy service warrant in 2021 that may have included references to people in his own government.
A commission of inquiry into foreign interference has heard that it took 54 days for the Canadian Security Intelligence Service warrant application to be approved by Blair.
The average turnaround time for such applications is four to 10 days.
