Sports Update - Saturday, October 12th

The Provincial A-AA-AAA High School Soccer championships wrap up today in Minnedosa. Miller Collegiate of Altona will meet Garden Valley of Winkler in the girls final. Morden will face GVC in the boys final. The host Chancellors will take on Niverville in the boys third place game. Minnedosa/Erickson will meet Dauphin in the girls consolation semifinal.


The Westman Wildcats dropped a 3-1 decision to the Brandon Wheat Kings. Ivy Perkin had the lone goal for the Wildcats who meet the Winnipeg Avros today at 5 p.m. in Souris.

RCMP ask public for help in identifying body found in Red River

Update - Selkirk RCMP investigating after body found in the Red River

Selkirk RCMP are requesting public assistance in identifying the body pulled from the Red River on September 21, 2024.


A composite sketch of the male has been completed and Selkirk RCMP are asking anyone who can help identify this person to call 204-482-1222, call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

Turkey production has rebounded

While there are many ways to celebrate Thanksgiving, many people will have enjoyed sitting down to a nice juicy turkey.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two biggest seasons for turkey consumption,  but over the last few years, the industry has launched a campaign to broaden that reach.

Chair of the Turkey Farmers of Canada  Darren Ference says more and more people are now eating whole turkeys or turkey parts throughout the year.

High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest: Dauphin RCMP Apprehend Stolen Truck Suspects with Public’s Help

On October 10, 2024, at approximately 6:40 pm, Dauphin RCMP received information that a Ford F150 pickup truck had been stolen from Roblin and was believed to be heading towards Dauphin.

Later that evening, Dauphin RCMP began receiving numerous calls about this same stolen vehicle travelling at high rates of speed on residential streets within the city.

Selkirk RCMP looking for information on burned structure

On October 8, 2024, at approximately 6:55 pm, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a structure fire on Ferry Road in Selkirk, Manitoba. The residence was abandoned with nobody believed to be inside.

When the fire was reported, the structure was already completely engulfed. The local fire department attended to the blaze. The structure was a complete loss. There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Fall Flu season vaccines begin October 24th - Prairie Mtn Health

Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) COVID 19 and seasonal flu vaccine clinics have been set and will begin with the first public clinic in Brandon on Thursday, October 24.

Province invests $42M to Infrastructure Projects in Rural Manitoba

Manitoba Government Invests $42 Million to Support Strategic Infrastructure Projects for Municipalities Outside Winnipeg

The Manitoba government is supporting 136 municipalities with an investment of $42 million for critical infrastructure projects that focus on community renewal, disaster mitigation, climate resiliency and recreation, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Ian Bushie announced today.

Major Upgrades Coming to RMNP: Lakeshore Trail and Pier Renovations Begin This October

Construction work to repair and upgrade the Lakeshore Trail and the Pier at the Main Beach in Riding Mountain National Park will begin this October and continue into spring 2025.

These investments will repair damage caused by severe weather events in the spring and summer of 2022.

The Pier will be temporarily closed until spring and the Lakeshore Trail will be closed in 400m sections along its length as work progresses.

Portions of the trail not under construction may be open at various times.
