Brandon Police Service - Oct 11th Report

Impaired Driver

On October 10, 2024, police received a report of a possible impaired driver near Willowdale Cres and Wexford Bay.  Members located the vehicle, which was stopped, and the driver was passed out behind the wheel.  The 43-year-old male was arrested and provided samples of his breath which were more than double the legal limit.  He will appear in court on October 17, 2024, on charges of Operation Exceeding 80mgs% and Operation While Impaired.

Valerie Driedger, 61, of Elm Creek passed away Wednesday, October 9th at Health Sciences Centre. She is survived by her husband Peter and her mother Rose Dyck. She was predeceased by her father David A. Dyck. 
The funeral service for Valerie Driedger will be held Monday, October 14th at 2pm at Crossway Elm Creek with burial prior to the service at 1pm at Wingham Cemetery. 
Viewing will be at Doyle’s Funeral Home, Carman Sunday, October 13th from 7 to 8pm. 

Illegal crossings: Pleas and warnings as Canadian, American border agencies host first-ever joint event

Safety is a matter that concerns both sides of the Canadian-American border.  
 
For the first time, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Integrated Border Enforcement Team (IBET) and the United States Border Patrol’s Grand Forks Sector held an information session jointly to educate the public on the dangers of crossing the border illegally — especially during the winter months when frigid temperatures and inclement weather can cause a tragic loss of human life.

Margaret Margo Wiebe nee Giesbrecht, 86, of Altona formerly of Gretna, passed away Wednesday, October 9th at Altona Memorial Health Centre. She is survived by 2 daughters, 3 sons, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband John, 1 daughter-in-law, and 1 sister.

When it comes to creating a corn maze, one can envision a stack of white paper, a pencil-eraser and a ruler. But Jefferies Seeds made their first corn maze this summer and, once the ball got rolling it was easier than you might think.

Riley Jefferies found a simpler solution by using technology to create the 10-acre corn maze just west of the town of Glenboro.

Kola Outdoor Rec Roof just One of the Projects in RM of Wallace-Woodward

The Kola Outdoor Rec Center recently received a $15,000 grant from HyLife through their HyLife Fun Days 2024 initiative, Kola being one of 3 projects in Manitoba that HyLife supported this past summer with each receiving $15K.

This year's recipients were Neepawa's Habitat for Humanity Neepawa, La Broquerie Helping Hands, and the Kola Outdoor Rec Centre.

Brandon Hospital Traffic Loop and Main Entrance re-opens Today, Friday Oct 11

Brandon Regional Health Centre (BRHC) traffic loop and main entrance will reopen on Friday, October 11.

This stage of the expansion project is now complete.

Please remember they will no longer use the staff entrance next to the Emergency Department doors for pick up and drop off.  Effective Friday, the Assiniboine Centre doors will also be locked.  Entry into BRHC will be through the main entrance.

Sports Update - Friday, October 11th

The Provincial A-AA-AAA High School Soccer championships begin today in Minnedosa. The host Chancellors face Morweena and the Neepawa Tigers will take on Niverville in the boys quarterfinals. Minnedosa/Erickson will meet the Miller Aces of Altona while Neepawa will face the Garden Valley Zodiacs of Winkler in the girls quarterfinals.


Brandon Wheat Kings forward Jaxon Jacobson and defenseman Giorgos Pantelas are among 41 CHL players who will compete with Canada Red & Canada White at the 2024 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, from November 3-9 in Sarnia, Ontario.
