Southwest Saskatchewan residents are having their voices heard regarding potential border crossing changes to hours of operation.

Cypress Hills Grasslands MP, Jeremy Patzer, has been reading petitions in the House of Commons on behalf of his constituents after a whistleblower sounded the alarm on the possible reduction of hours or even closure of border crossings in his riding.

Since first meeting with the whistleblower back in August, Patzer has been working to uncover more information, and bringing this problem to light in Ottawa.

Two talented young writers from Sun West School Division have made their mark on Saskatchewan’s literary scene. Rosetown Central High School students Tari Wenzel and Jan Nasibog, recently had their work published in the Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild’s annual magazine, *Windscript*. Since its inception in 1983, *Windscript* has showcased some of the finest original writing from high school students across the province, supporting Saskatchewan’s emerging literary voices.

The Hobby Craft & Gun Show had a big return to Swift Current on the weekend. 

The fall edition of the annual trade show had over 220 vendors take up tables at the Stockade Building. While no official head count was kept, founder and organizer of the HC&GS, Henry Banman, estimated somewhere over 2,000 people made it out over the course of Saturday and Sunday. 

"My wife and I, we put in an awfully big pile of hours," said Banman. "But we've done it now since 1977."

The Crescent Park Foundation recently wrapped up yet another ‘tree art’ project in the downtown green space that has been called the ‘Jewel of the Prairies’ — the project is one more feather in the cap of an initiative first started in the ‘70s.

Deputy Chief Shane St. John with the Weyburn Police Service commends the community for calling in Report Impaired Driving (RID) complaints after a call resulted in a suspension last Monday. 

“Police did locate the vehicle, and it was a good call in. The female driver did test positive for marijuana, THC, and they did get a three-day suspension. They weren't enough to be found impaired, but enough to get the suspension.” 

St. John explains there’s a variety of things to look out for when determining what to test for during an impaired driving stop. 

The tally is in for the Swift Current municipal advance polls. 

Jackie Schlamp, returning officer and city clerk for the City of Swift Current, has been hard at work this election season. For the last couple of days, she has been working to ensure everything runs smoothly for advance poll voters. 

Today, she revealed some interesting stats from the 2024 election that have unfolded so far. 

A 15-year-old from La Broquerie has found a passion for building guitars, and has built both electric and acoustic guitars. 

Christian Gauthier says building guitars takes a lot of skill. 

“You need to have woodworking abilities, you need to have guitar abilities, you need to know what everything is, where everything goes, what you all need. You don’t want to all of a sudden be missing something by the time you reach the end and realize it doesn't work.” 

He explains how he got into the hobby. 

Gleichen RCMP is asking the public for help to find a missing 16-year-old.

According to an RCMP news release, Pashence Wolfchild was last seen at Siksika Nation on Monday (Nov. 4).

"There is concern for her wellbeing and RCMP need to speak to her," wrote police.

Police announced on Wednesday that Paschence had been located safe. 

A weather system moving across the prairies has triggered snowfall warnings for parts of southeastern Alberta and southwestern Saskatchewan. While the Weyburn area was initially expected to experience a mix of rain and snow, the forecast has been updated to predict a transition from rain to snow as the day progresses.

Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor confirmed that areas west of Weyburn and Estevan will likely see more snowfall. However, Weyburn can still expect to see upwards of 4 centimetres of snow accumulate by late Wednesday morning.

The City of Chestermere announced it will move to a bi-weekly green cart pickup schedule.

Staff with the city mentioned it will start on Sunday (Nov. 10).

The Town of Strathmore also moved to bi-weekly pickup of green bins on November 1 for the fall and winter seasons.

"Remember, green carts are for organics such as food scraps, pet waste, and grass clippings," wrote the city in a news release.
