Wheatland County to close portion of Range Road 254
Range Road 254 between Township Road 230 and Highway 901 will be closed for construction work.
"Thank you for your patience," wrote Wheatland County in a news release.
Staff with the county say from November 4 to December 13, work will be done on replacing a bridge-size culvert.
Trunk or Treat offers scare-free Halloween experience
A family-friendly trick or treat alternative returns to Strathmore on Halloween (Oct. 31).
The Strathmore Full Gospel Church will host its annual Trunk or Treat event in the church's parking lot from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
"We've been doing this for over a decade now," said Jessica Clayton, next-gen director of the church. "We are just a group of people that come and decorate our trunks in ways that aren't scary for young families."
Strathmore Lions Club encouraging kids to showcase their artistic talent
The Strathmore Lions Club is looking for a few talented artists to submit their work for the 2024 Peace Poster Contest.
The program has been taking place across the globe according to George Bloom, a member of the club.
The contest is for kids in schools and youth groups to draw what they think world peace looks like.
"It's for ages 11 to 13 to participate in and the Strathmore contest has some pretty good prize money attached to it and it can elevate to the district level after that," added Bloom.
New Calgary Cancer Centre officially opens to patients
The Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre officially opened to patients on Monday.
According to Alberta Health Services, there are more than 100 patient exam rooms, 160 inpatient unit beds, over 90 chemotherapy chairs, increased space for clinical trials, and 12 radiation vaults.
The new centre cost $1.4 billion to build and will help serve residents in southern Alberta including Strathmore, Chestermere, and Langdon.

According to the town, the goal of the event is for people to come up with anything that has been on their mind and bring it up with either the Mayor or any Council member while enjoying a steaming hot cup of coffee.
Medicine Hat motorcycle rider killed in crash
A 66-year-old Medicine Hat man is dead following a crash between an SUV and a motorcycle.
According to a news release from RCMP, officers were called to the scene on Highway 1, just east of Boundary Road S.E. in Redcliff.
"Both vehicles were travelling eastbound at the time of the collision," wrote RCMP.
The 66-year-old motorcycle rider was sent to Medicine Hat Regional Hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died in hospital. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

The annual Operation Christmas Child shoebox campaign has started up once again.
"Individuals, families, churches, businesses, sports teams, and community groups are now packing shoeboxes with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items, plus personal notes and photos, to be delivered to children in need around the world," says a new release from Samaritan's Purse.
Strathmore residents can drop off a shoebox at the Strathmore Alliance Church during the week of Nov. 18-24.
