Rocky View County eyes investment opportunities on $7 billion economic gateway

Rocky View County and the City of Calgary are continuing to make their vision of the Prairie Economic Gateway a reality.

"Following the approval of a historic agreement in February, the municipalities have initiated discussions with the provincial and federal governments, moved towards finalizing the terms of reference for the project’s Oversight Committee, and signed an early-stage memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) to explore an investment partnership," said the county in a release.

It was a big weekend just outside of Strathmore at Tyrrell Riding Academy.

For their Finals Weekend event, the equestrian centre held a gymkhana competition on Saturday and a cowboy challenge on Sunday.

Owner Jessica Tyrrell said more than 100 riders attended the contest.

"It was really nice because we got to see how everybody had developed over the year and become stronger riders with better teamwork with their horses."

Brooks RCMP locate missing person

Brooks RCMP has located a missing person who was last seen more than a month ago.

Last week police announced that 32-year-old Joshua Kinsella-Gow, also known as 'Astrid', had been missing since Feb. 11.

On Monday, Mar. 24, it was announced that Kinsella-Gow had been found safe. 

Police believed that Kinsella-Gow had traveled to the Calgary area before they were located.

Chestermere’s Steve King Memorial Dog Park to close for gopher control

Dog walkers at Steve King Memorial Dog Park in Chestermere will have to take their pets to another location.

Starting Wednesday, April 2 the park will be closed for approximately four weeks.

"The Parks Department will be conducting gopher control in Steve King Dog Park, and for the safety of your pets, there will be no entry allowed. We appreciate your cooperation during this closure," said the city in a release.

Wheatland County to become energy player with new hydrogen hub

Wheatland County is joining the Calgary Region Hydrogen Hub to become a player in the low-carbon global economy.

“Wheatland County is helping chart a path of energy diversification by leveraging its strategic location and resources to support hydrogen technology innovations within Alberta," said Amber Link, reeve of Wheatland County.

According to the release, hydrogen is expected to be an important cog in the wheel of the future economy.

AAFC Researchers at the Lethbridge Research and Development Centre want to turn Canadian agriculture’s value chains into value circles.  

Dr. Emma Stephens and a team of data analysts are taking the most comprehensive look yet at Canada’s entire agriculture and agri-food industry, from the field, to processing and exports, to the end use by consumers.

"What that means is looking for additional value-added opportunities within our agri-food value chain through co-products and current waste byproducts to find additional ag-based resources," she explained.

Canada updates U.S., China travel advisories after recent frictions

Canadians are now facing updated travel advisories to the world's two largest economies, after Ottawa warned travellers who stay in the United States for more than 30 days to make sure they register as required.

The advisory for the United States follows another update for travel to China, where Canadians with dual citizenship have been warned to use Canadian credentials when presenting to Chinese authorities.
